I can't make it to NZ Superstocks so I naturally assumed that the NZ speedway's premier event would be on speedbox. Wrong! I assume Huntly have made this decision for commercial reasons and it is cost vs desired profit driven ie $$$. I would have assumed however SNZ would have taken into consideration, customers’ needs, wants and preferences as part of the contract in allocating the famous championship to Huntly. What is the product value to SNZ? Can someone from the Huntly club please let myself and others know why there is no speedbox?

Speedbox is a seperate entity from SNZ, a third part as such, so contracts would be formed with the clubs not with SNZ as a whole. Speedbox themselves said that things didn't line-up between them and Huntly Speedway so they hadn't gained the rights to film and stream the event. Huntly are still obligated to film it - I assume it just wont be Speedbox.
I guess it wont be a popular decision but it is still Huntly's decision to make. My question is; have we started to take Speedbox for granted, enough that we see it as our god-given right?

Speedbox is a product that is providing a much needed service to the wider masses. If clubs dont support them and they dont get the events to stream, then obviously it wont be a viable venture fiscally to continue. They need to sort negotiations out with the clubs, if it is a fact that Huntly want a bit of the pie then BOTH sides must come to some arrangement.........Bottom line is if you dont provide the service to your customers , then you wont survive.

Good comments. I think Huntly will film it then edit the champs. Here's my issue: Whether people like it or not live viewing is real-time, as events happen, in the present. Surely live TV is the eventual goal of speedway and speedbox is part of the evolution. Of course I'm referring to my own bias - live superstock racing in particularly teams and NZ champs. The future of speedway has to be live action! Delayed is good because it you can capture the best of the event. by adding stuff etc however you can't beat the advantage of real action and eventually this must attract viewers! Once Speedbox evolves I believe live action is the ONLY device to gain audience viewers. In my opinion without speedbox live "on location" will fade away. I say unedited real time needs to be supported!

Careful , could follow that all the way back to what we did before speedway and go do that again.

Yes, without support no business survives. All clubs get "a piece of the pie" from any event that Speedbox covers at their track as it stands right now.

It would seem odd that the track would turn down an easy form of income (I say easy from my limited knowledge) so they must have a very good reason.
Perhaps there is a fear that people that will take it for granted and sit at home and watch as opposed to turning up to the event, I dont know but for me personally I cant get to very many meetings because of funds but am more than happy to pay my $X amount to speedbox knowing that the tracks involved get their cut.

So the way it stands is that there is no Speedbox but there will be delayed TV coverage. If I find out when and where that will be screened, I'll let people know on here.

Im assuming (as Huntly Speedway have made no official statement re this subject to my knowledge) that delayed free to air coverage will be similar to the broadcast of the Steve Williams Foundation meeting at Huntly where Tiger Woods, Tana Umaga, Greg Murphy and co competed in three (?) stockcar teams races, and were filmed by an independant broadcast company, then shown later on TV One's Shell Helix Motorsport several months later.
Will SNZ be getting a nice slice of the pie from the broadcast deal and dvd sales? Im hoping so, as tv deals like the above are surely financially lucrative to anyone behind such a venture.
Personally, Id much rather support Speedbox who show entire meetings, rather than a 15 minute package edited down from 6+ hours of speedway action, that way you see all classes, rather than just what someone wants you to see.
Thankyou to the clubs who have supported Speedbox, and thanks to Speedbox for supporting the speedway community, proving what they do is for the fans and the sport, rather than a once off quick buck.

I don't think we would be doing the event justice if we allow this topic to dominate discussion leading up to racing. I would like to think there is time for the parties involved to have a meeting of minds without us entrenching their positions. For that reason I am locking this thread , think it's all been said now anyway.
