If we are talking Stock Cars at Western Springs and Epsom would your Grandfather or father be also known as Aussie Watson.

I can see no Watson for #76 at Western Springs, Epsom, or Gloucester Park, so that covers 1955 to 1964.
There is Fred "Aussie" Watson who raced at the Springs and Epsom, there were also a lot of guys who shared cars in those days that were not always listed in the programmes.
Pretty sure I can come up with the #76 saloon photos fairly soon.

Another photo, this time from 1973. I am still trying to find more including the Cortina (I think) that he ran around 1971. Brett, the 'pit gate' was actually a shute, and pretty safe. The fence coming off the corner overlapped the pit entrance shute. The angle of the photo, and the position of the photographer flattens out the fence and makes it seem that there is only a human barrier. Replaced by the two steel gates when the club took over the track and put in the concrete wall, but the shute was used from around 1971 to 1978.

Wanganui had something similar until a stockcar drove clean through it and into the pits. Driver was unconscious or throttle jammed.

Hi PallMall, I think Gordon Watson had something to do with the ex USA #76 Kurtis V860 midget on your MIA thread on page 39, under Midget Photos. it was also a feature in the NZ Hot Rod magazine about ten years ago. Hi leewaton, Kevin61 on this discussion group is a good friend of your father, and might be able to help you on more information.

Yes eloc1, Gordon Watson was the owner of the #76 Kurtis V860 midget, probably from about 1954 through to around 1964 when George Tervitt got it. Driven by Ian Holden it was the car to beat at Western Springs, and thankfully is still around restored back to its black #76 paint scheme. Gordon may be in this photo, sadly the copy I have has the crews heads cut off!
