Well the 3rd heat started with foxy pasting 2 car in the grass off the start line, ended worts night by once again coming off the grass in turn 3 straight into him which spin wille around and into the wall .
Wille is a great sportsman who after getting taken out by Foxy just shook his head and walked away.
Others would have gone too SNZ .
He was going great till then but thats racing.

Before this thread gets too overboard with the wrong car being accused of Willie's crash the ship will hopefully be righted and the uninformed can take a lesson about factual writing! Aaron's incident quoted above did happen in race three but thats about where the truth stops. It didn't end Willie's night as he made it out for the 4th race, the Ginge Hayward Memorial. The pictures below will explain what happened to the 10S mod causing the damage.......

I wasnt there for the memorial as the kids were cold. i was talking of Heat 3, Well the way i seen Foxy came out of turn 2 down the back straight wheel stand infeild didnt back off back out into turn 3 cutting harris off who hit the brakes and went wide which willy was trying to past. Great photos which tell a 1000 words. As far as ending the night i ment the last heat for the champs, not the Ginge Hayward Memorial. which well done harris for winning,

That wheelstand was in race three, this crash is in the Ginge Hayward and Harris is currently leading when Noonan was making the pass, foxy is a distant third at the time. Harris went no where near his brakes to avoid anything, he just changed line all by himself.

GH I think you may have another award winning pic there, the second one. that thing of Noonans has a right front brake on it, never seen that on a open wheeled wing car before.

It was definatly a sad end to a great car after 18yrs. I hope Willie can build a new car for next year and have it going just as great as this old tractor has been.

I was talking to Grant Harris just before that race, he had been having some difficulty finding his best line on the Rotorua track as it was his first time there, however still had (at that point) managed the 4th quickest lap time. Congrats to Grant for his first out of town win, condolences to Willie over the accident - we certainly dont like to see race weekends ending like this.

great pics, a huge impact at full noise, that gotta hurt. 64a has really matured as a driver since the NZs where he was a mobile chicane. He was definitely on the pace and took a good lead on the rest of the field in the Ginge Hayward memorial. Being a fairly new driver to the sport, the lines 64a takes uses most of the track with no consistency and is very hard to pass not knowing where he is going. 64a did well to hold foxy out and blocking all attempts to pass and will be a driver to watch for next season. Willy is the type of competitor who wont settle for follow the leader and backs himself with his aggressive driving style, good on him for giving it a go. He was very unlucky when foxy raced across the grass and entered the track in front of Willy. Willy could of continued his line and cleaned out foxy but the sportsman racer he is avoided a potential collision. With the heaviest car out there, imagine what it can do with a new chassis shedding 130kg. Time will tell, bring on next season

A post mortem is still being carried out, will know if there will be a memorial service after the weekend. Will try to get some pics of the progress over next week or so. If it is condemned i think it will end up in the mod museum
Willy had a sore calf muscle and was wondering what hit him. After close inspection in the morning it was the battery and box that was a flying missile. But after walking around in shorts after the event till early hours of the morning i don't think he felt a thing, it was freezing. They build them tuff down in the naki.

This just in from the crew of the 10s:
"We stripped the engine with no damage from the accident apart from a broken fitting and bolt. We have had the official word that they will be retaining the old car but with a new front on the chassis. I think from a sentimental point of view rather than a practical point of view as its like part of the family..."
;D
The tractor will ride again!
