Well good on them but,to me who cares lol ,I say that because what gets up my nose is how much coverage 3 time world champions, yes champions ,not we won now we can compete in a championship lol,the black socks softball team got? ?compared to this boys kick and kiss lol, Its apauling having to do sausage sizzles ect to fund them selfs to stay in backpackers and hostels,Do you think te all whites will have to do anything like that? ? lol dont think so ,and how many blacksocks games where televised here? ? my rant over, good on them but where was the backing for true 3 time world champions trying to go for 4??? Maybe that's because Football is the biggest sport IN THE WORLD - and Softball is played by what, a couple of hundred people... (even the Americans probably don't have it on TV, they only know Baseball - so probably don't even know it exists)... Having said that - what an AWESOME night at the stadium!!! Just magic as that huge NZ flag was passed around at the start! And as for those cheating Bahrani's, with their gold plated A340 jet, who were too limp to even score a gift penalty - SUCK ON THAT!!!! America know it exists do a you tube search or google do you think New Zealand would of thought of the game? People i know go to the states and play proffesionally in our off season.

The BIG difference between football (soccer) and baseball or even egg chasing is that football IS the biggest sport in the world. Come to Europe, go to south east asia, south america or anywhere else in the globe and you'll find it plastered all over the back pages of every newspaper - hell, people top themselves every year in south america if their team loses to their nearest rival. It's a religion, a way of life and even a war! I know as I was once addicted to the sport and travelled all over europe to watch it.
Baseball, whilst big in the good ol' U S of A, don't mean squat to most of the rest of the world, even egg chasing is restricted to a few countries and doesn't have the global reach soccer does.
Whilst it may seem 'trivial' that NZ has qualified for the biggest sporting event outside of the Olympics, you go to a few European countries, who have world class players but missed out to a trip to SA in 2010, they'd happily swap places with NZ

Yep, I've known people who do the same and play for money in the States or Canada. Pretty pointless argument though, Softball is a mostly amateur sport that would have little if any TV coverage anywhere in the world - where as a Wikipedia search tells you that US Major League Baseball turned over $6.5 Billion last year - which was more than their NFL Football league... Interesting though - there are also now more people playing Soccer in the US than Baseball! So like Wolfy Smith said - its the biggest sport in the world - and like a religion in most countries - so NZ qualifying is HUGE!!
