Great nights racing!!
Not quite the Wellington result we wanted but Wellington cars 4th to 6th was still a pretty good effort, and definitely not embarrassed with Alan Jacobs the outstanding local car on the night.
Awesome dual between 1NZ and 48A, with Phil taking the win eventually from Brent by a reasonable margin, but the lead changed several times in the early stages, amazing to watch.
Drive of the night - Steve Williams - a stuck throttle in the first heat then a win in the second saw him qualify 9th in his group, so on the second to last row for the final - so a very strong drive through the field for third was a credible effort.
Hard luck award of the night should go to 61A Roy Walker - the defending GP Champ towed something like 900+K's to get here and was fast all night - just seemed to be on the wrong end of a few incidents that ruined the night (and a few suspension parts)...
And how close was the racing - each group had a 3 way run off for 10th place - so not much to pick between 24 of the cars!
Thanks to all the out of towner's for coming down to support the event, hopefully you've all had a good evening - and we really got the best of the North Islands weather tonight!
Also, best wishes to Chris Betts 78S after his triple barrel roll in the final, the car looked a mess but hopefully Chris is OK - I believe he ended up in the ambulance, but I think he walked in unaided, so hopefully just a few bruises??
And well done to Murray Guy - in the run off for qualification then taking out the Samsung consolation race - the donuts were definitely top glass Grandad!
Cheers all!

very long cold night(both murray guy and me thought it was meanee), great saloon racing, phillip towgood is amazing, his car runs so straight and deep into the turns, steve williams made more passes on a slick track than you could keep up with. would have loved to see a top six shootout with towgood, mclymont, williams, roy walker(super smooth and made lots of passes into turn one), alan jacobs and todd moffat. the lineups for the restarts were a farce though, must be able to do better than that(what ever happened to the blackboard so the drivers can see as they go past).thumbs up for a good night, saloons, take a bow!!

Aside from the great Saloon racing I must say that the standard of presentation over the whole class was awesome, there was some great paint jobs, i would say it's probably the best presented class overall.

Had a good weekend in Wellington. Track was really smooth and had plenty of drive. There seemed to be more carnage than was necessary but luckily we were spared anything more than a few scratches. Thanks to Wellington for a great track surface, good weather and good food. Congratulations to Brent and Steve for 2nd and 3rd, Phil really loved racing close to Brent for so long. Good clean racing. Thanks to our Crew, Mike & Jodie and to all our sponsors : Peninsula Tyres, Whitianga Earthmoving, J.A Russell Marine and Forestry Maintenance, Easy Mind Home based Child Care, The Autobarn, Danby Machine and Development and Coastal Campers. Thanks also to Samsung for sponsoring the event, and thankx Murray for writing the entertaining comments in the programme.

Mike Wilson also qualified well in his group - I was drivers rep for the other group so was pretty busy and didn't catch up with their group much - but I think he was running the Supra this meeting - although I'm certain he was in a Monaro for the Southern DHL - how many cars does the guy have?! Again, he must have pretty much kept out of trouble and I think he was running around about the middle of the pack in the final, so going pretty well - this was definitely a class field, so anyone in the last 20 wasn't there just by chance!

On the road ...
A few interesting minutes of UTUBE Video. Part 1 of heat 1 of Group two has Bryan Skelton 59a off pole. 2 yellow re-starts. 13r bonds a few times with Steve Muir 16m for a DNF minus a rear right and a front left! A flying Steve Williams has a DNF with a faulty accelerator cable. First re-start, Ht 1 group 2, under yellow has 21h Steve Williams on pole.Heat 1, second yellow re-start, good win to Bryan Skelton 59a ...Group 2 Heat 2, part one, is off to a bad start completing only1/2 a lap before carnage ...A seriously great race to qualify - 13r, 16m and 74a have a run-off. Race won by 74a. Non-qualifiers final over 10 laps produces a good result and end to the evening for 13r after a not so good beginning! Part One of two. Prize being a Samsung microwave ...Non-qualifiers part 2 of 2 ...
