What a waste of time heading down there. Rang to make sure meeting was all go just after lunch, told it was on. loaded up got the family sorted and headed down, only to get to the gate at 5.15pm for 7pm start to find a Hawkes bay superstock there and the gates locked. Not one person from the club had the decency to hang around and explain what was happening.. Not even there own drivers new as i seen them heading out as i went back to town. Got told they were expecting rain, but when i left to head back to New Plymouth at 7pm the sun was shining and it was hot. I hope someone down there can explain cos towing a car there wasn't cheap in this recession, and i took a day off work to make the trip.

what a way to treat visiting cars and locals for that matter. Cemetary Circuit, Jet Sprints, Powerboats on the river and FMX tonight at Cooks Gardens, speedweeks been a great success.

BIG THUMBS DOWN FOR OCEANVIEW SPEEDWAY! What a poorly run operation. Towed car down also and was astounded the reason for cancellation was weather!!! It was bloody hot where I was sitting and not a drop of rain. Should not have bothered! Would encourage all drivers who were also out of pocket (and patience) who drove from out of town to attend only to find the gates locked, that they express these concerns directly to Speedway NZ. At the very least Oceanview Speedway should have had the decency to put a sign up either saying it was cancelled and the reason, or putting someone on the gate to give an explanation. Preferably should not have been the lame excuse given.

Well I'm not defending the way things were done but I work opposite the speedway on the other side of the river and it started raining at about 7.30ish and never stopped for the rest of the night. So in hindsight it was a good call but feel sorry for the drivers that towed all that way.

do they have radio broadcasts there? i think even our club does, but its easy to tell if ours is on or off perhaps travellers should find out the local radio station that does the announcments and tune in before heading off... but that doesnt wash the fact that it was canned and no one there at or signs etc... better luck next time ae

Good points about radio stations. Just looked at the site again and couldn't find any reference to a radio station to listen to re cancellations. Perhaps as a courtesy to out of towners they could put on their website the name and number of the radio station that advises if speedway is cancelled or not?? At least that way you could tune in before you reach wangas. It would also be helpful to know what time this is broadcast.

also do they require out of towners to get in touch with the class reps to let them know your coming?
could be a good way of getting cancellations through if the reps know your on your way, they could call and say stay at home.....
just a few things i know some clubs do to make life a little bit easier...

Just to let every one know the meeting was cancelled at 2.45 due to the weather forcast and to let the out of town drivers know early that it was cancelled. We put it on the website and let the radio know and also left message on the track phone. All drivers contacts were notified so they could let any out of town drivers know that it was cancelled. Any out of town drivers must contact the class contact so they can let these people know of changes . I really don't know what else we could of done.

Angela thank you for stepping up with some answers to why the meeting was cancelled. Can you please answer how you can run a meeting without the outside safety barrier? This is the fence to keep spectators back from the catch fence. As this morning I have been out and it is not there also the pits are not fenced either. Looking forward to your answer as at 2.45pm when you say the meeting was cancelled we checked at 4pm on the web and was still on at 4pm. Are you allowed to run a meetings without practices. You were very lucky the weather came thru for you!

In reply to avgas First I ask how you can enter our complex when it is locked, as per the crowd controll fence we had a netting to go around before the meeting was to be run also the fence in the pits was deemed to be fine as there is a bank there to stop cars these items will be completed over the next week. Again when a group off deicated people are working hard to get every thing done and people are judging from the side lines it makes us all feel like giving up!! But we are committed to the club and are doing the best we can with the resouces we have and the time we have. I myself have been spending all day working at my full time job and then spending hours at the track sometimes getting home at 10pm to have tea and go to bed. Then also spending my days off doing work for the speedway. So if you are concerned about what is happening I invite you to join the club and come and help out!!!!!!

We have an aircraft so can easily see what is going on without entering your locked complex. Thanks for your answers. Keep up the good work will all be worth it soon.

As long as we learn and improve all good. I hope the drivers who had confirmed they were coming with the appropriate people are looked after. Other than that roll on opening.
