I might have chosen a different word from ``brave''. But to his credit, Smith got out of the car, took the cheers, admitted he was a buffoon for trying to get outside the Tank -- then came back last year and won a race for the Lions.
And yes, Burson's chassis was stapled. Took a fair bit of work from Hig, Phil Kirk and others to be able to hand it back to Ian with all four corners in place.

Awsome hits. I should take that dvd to the track and show the idiots that stand on the fence line how much steel may be heading there way.

I seem to remember that Stu Smith was interviewed after his Wall of Death performance, and commented that someone told him that if he got on the outside of KP, he should just keep accelerating.
I wonder if, following that, he ever discovered that the Kiwi sense of humour is a bit different, and that not all advice ought be taken as gospel ;D

You're both remembering correctly ;D
Was later that night that Stu Smith announced they'd be a full UK team in 12 months time. How right he was!!

Maybe someone can offer him mountain oysters this year as a great Kiwi delicacy. Wonder if he'll take the bait...

anyone know what happened to the Nelson car drilled by Gary Worthington? is about 2:40 into the clip, looks like pretty heavy damage to it Driver of the car was Brendan Higgins when Gary dropped in for a chat Car was on loan from Ian Burson? I think. Had a ''little'' bit of damage Has been converted to a stockcar and is now on the track in Greymouth. I think Dar Stanton had it but has a new driver in it this year. Here it is when Burs had it Yea that car is in Greymouth & now is raced by Towbar Dave Terris's son (has just stepped up from Youth ministocks)
