Three more "H" cars have been added to the list plus Dickinson from Stratford. Also note National Minisprint Champion Brian Edwards is now listed as the driver of 10A for the day.

well done yummy, great meeting ,great result,...but i do have some concern,s about the decisions that were coming from the tower...matched only by the childish, unsportsman like driving of midget 7 H,,,or has the easter bunny come early?

One had to feel very sorry for the drivers today. A big haul to Napier then Kihikihi to be greeted by a track with about as much moisture below the top surface as the Sahara Desert.
As fatrightrear mentioned the decisions from the tower were highly creative. Not sure which rule book they brought today but it wasn't the 2009/10 SNZ version.
The drivers did the best they could under the circumstances and adjusted their setups for the main event with all but 1 driver driving sensibly.
So thats 1nz, 1gp and 2ni for Mr Pickens.

The track was a challenge thats for sure but it was the same for everyone. I would have to say that there was absolutely no grip at all in the track and our cars were as tight as you could get them. Thats racing and thats what makes the sport exciting. What doesn't make the sport exciting is the absolute crap officiating. Read the feaken rule book!!!! I went through the drivers reps and asked two questions. First was since when can you receive outside assistance on a yellow? Answer..."I didn't know. It wasn't my call" (Hello your the Referee buddy, arnt you running the show when the green light drops?) Second was why is the prime cause of a yellow allowed to restart back in their positions. Answer "I dont know who the prime cause is".
With respect if you want us as drivers to be professional and abide by the rules then all we ask is that you know the rules. Make a decision!!! Stand up and make the big call!!! If you out of your depth then ask someone that knows. Bryce Townsend was there along with Len Gardner and both of these guys could have assisted.
In the end the meeting came back around but it took the help of a few faces from the Springs.
Well done Kihikihi on the day but you were let down by some really bad bad calls. Maybe we should run the National Midget Car Series rules as there's no issues there.

Has anyone got the full results of the NMCS from Kihi? Only bare bones on their website, whereas Meeanee had full details of their round available on Sunday.

Let me take another angle at this. Clearly the Referee was struggling with the Midget Class and their rules. I am sure that he was doing his best and would have learned alot yesterday. However where was his help? What i mean by this is surly this would have been a great opportunity for a Senior Referee to be standing beside him/her and acting as a mentor?

Well said Bill.
I didn't get to go in the end but it is good to see that a driver like yourself can see the whole thing as a learning curve for those involved and can suggest improvement for next time.
Perhaps there needs to be some mentoring involved with classes around the country. Would be great for the sport on the whole. Something to consider SNZ?

Please correct me if I'm wrong,BUT Is a G.P title meeting a SNZ title and do they not appoint the meeting officials.Mr t. savell or Mr l. Calender can you enlighten us. All so i would like to thank Bryce Townsend for his vision to promote and persevere with such a great concept for midget car racing ....well done scooter!!

Yes, the track was hopeless for real racing and to be honest Bill, I don't think that there's anything exciting about a track like that. A driver needs to get teir midget up to more than 50kph around the corner for it to be exciting!
Your take on the referee's calls is pretty accurate though. Classic example was in heat two when 3 cars collided on turn 2. All 3 of them went back to original position so we can only suppose that noone was the prime cause!
Bill, in some ways the officials incompetence helped you out quite a bit though... did you actually ever run in front of 58 and 95 in the feature? You got past them both on the yellow but never on the green, so might not pay to say too much about the officials.
Sometimes, there's also a case for criticising drivers who deliberatly try it on during yellows, or blatantly go back to position after knowing full well that they caused an incident.

Your absolutely correct except for the fact that i was ahead of 95. I passed him and had been in front of him for two laps. He made an inside pass on me and as we went down the back straight the yellow came on. I went to go back ahead of him (last recorded lap) and he would not let me in so we went side by side (which is the procedure if disputing positions). We were like that for some 3 to 4 laps under yellow. To my utter amazement they turned off the yellows down the back straight indicating a start!!! Local car maybe springs to mind . Anyway we went green and a lap later we went yellow again. At this point i decided to make sure that they knew I should be ahead of 95 and I passed not only him but 58 as well. They should have put me in behind 58 but they put the board out with 75, 58. Unbelievable!! The whole thing was a farce. I spoke to Joe after the race about it. This was just but one of the many many many mistakes made and for once it played into my hands. Plenty didn't so if we are looking at a score card im still well off being in the red.

Bill hi.Getting the cars in the right place is so important at a meeting like this. The only way is to have 3 people in the control box with the Senior Ref checking that the cars are in the right place. We need one person to look after 1st 6 cars another for 2nd 6 and a third for last 4or 6 cars, trouble is we only have so many radios to go round and ONE CHANNEL to get the message to the infield. If we could have board at each corner.the third at start finish.Thats 2 laps saved. It is impossable for ref to get it right using present system. Thats my quailified comment. Please sort it out because myself and many other drivers are getting sick of sitting on the dumby grid for upto 20 mins. One final idea that would be a good idea. NO RESTARTS.When was that rule changed? Lunchbox

saloons were just as bad lining up while on a yellow and spinning up all day, as a driver lunchbox you should know that its not the class's fault it the half wits running from one end of the track to the other pointing and carring on achieving nothing.... all they have to do is put a board up so the drivers can read it. simple. k2 had a board waving from the tower!! how the hell can you read that while some half wit running round pointing at the same time?? as you said two boards on track simple stuff. save time and some people a half marathon!! end of day it not the drivers fault why it takes so long to re-position on yellow, its the unorginised people on the in field that makes a class look bad. It was the midget grand prix it was there day and time should of been allowed for.
