What a show everyone put on for us over the weekend, thanks heaps for putting the bodies and the cars on the line. Stockcars really can fly - for a little while!
But could I ask - at what cost? Just being nosy really.
After a weekend of teams racing, you have a long haul home and then in the following weeks, after the body recovers how long does it take for the Wallet to do the same?
What does a weekend like this cost? What would be an average repair and maintenance bill for a Stockcar after a weekend of 3 or 4 brutal team races to get the car straight and back in similar condition pre team champs? Then adding in travel, accommodation and general living expenses for the weekend, what are we looking at.
How much of this is off-set by appearance/prize money - how much does a team get for putting on the show?
I appreciate it that none of you guys "do it for the money" but what might you expect back to help cover some of your costs?
Regan you're a regular on these hallowed pages and a team racing veteran, mate, could you give us an inside peek at what it takes? I think you've said this year that the weekend just gone was the only teams racing you were planning on doing this year due to budget constraints.
Two years running with just the 10 teams, will Palmy be able to muster the full compliment of 12 next year, or is this the times we live in, in respect that the costs are just to high?
Thanks

These are some excellent questions , and some guidance on these sorts of questions will be good for soem prospective teams who are willing to attend in the future - or remind them why they are not there in the first place anyway.
look foward to any responses in advance!
will have a stab anyway
- Petrol to tow to track and around the accomodation $300 - 400 - Petrol to race $100 for four races (left overs in the tow car) - damage - to be expected, but a couple of tyres and rims, maybe a hub, maybe an axle, steering arms and links maybe probably a heap of steel and hopefully not a motor $$$ - Accomodaton $200 ($100 a night?) - Entry fees for crew $60 - Tucker and refreshments (6 meals and no beer @10/meal= 60) x 4 people (crew/family) $240
Obviousley there are variables to throw in or out (ferry for south island cars additional $800 each car), more on booze, less on food, less on accomodation, more on gas, less on gas etc
But so far thats a total of $1000 - have not included any repair cost, as thats part of the game, and your spares are there to be used. IF your coming from the south island it effectively doubles to $2000.
Thats costs - hopefully someone with real experiance can help with what the event might pay drivers to attend. This thread could be an excellent way to help some additional teams plan, and budget for such a weekend

Well since my name was mention i better reply Well i have just come back from looking at my car after the weekends racing and just to get the car back to how it was before teams i need: 2 x trailing arms of front beam (approx) $40.00 for pipe (ends ok) 1 x Steering arm $30.00 for pipe " " 1 x Panard arm $25.00 for pipe " " New diff head $150.00 New tyre $130.00 2 x new rims $180.00 1 x new stubb $50.00 2 x new disc $80.00 new corner for front bumper $100.00 Labour $FREE Total $785.00 to fix damages Thats what it would ruffly cost and it would be more for others as one of our team has to do rings and bearings. Now on to other cost: Accommodation $160.00 (3 Adults 2kids) Fuel (tow wagon) $180.00 Race fuel $100.00 Food $300.00 Entry cost $90.00 driver & 1 crew free Total $830.00 So total cost is $1615.00 Approx As superstock said you get good travel and apperance money well your travel is your apperance money and its not that much for stockcars.IF you win you do get prize money on top. We are lucky in the Maulers as we have had some good sponsors in the last seasons so our accommodation has been paid for and most of the food is supplied by the team etc: Breaky, lunch and after meeting. As some seasons we even paid for crew members to get in. I hope this gives you's some indercation on RUFFLY how much it can cost and hey if you run and get no damage then its a bonus but if you get some or heaps it can be costly. Cheers Regan O'Brien 81b Mauler One more thing, I do all this for fun to try and win teams champs so i can bring it to my home track and to our supporters.(fingers cross for next year ae ;D)

As someone involved in the management of the Crushers, including the fundraising, Obby is not too far from the truth in his estimates. Travel money certainly helps, but that stretch of water is painfully expensive.

Thansk for the update all. for a team that loses every race, what sort of appreance money would one expect?
The Greymouth Grizzlys are realistic about any chances should we ever be able to afford to attend.
I had heard recently there was $1000 per car offered to teams?
That would be a great start to getting some fundraising organiseed for a team to get up there, but i'm not sure if that figure is close at all. Do the Huntly teams crowd give teams an incentive to appear?
thanks again for all the answers - it does help assist with any planning that might go into preparing for such an event.
And well donw Regan and the Maulers, great to see you guys back in form after Welly and Huntly - so close!

Cheers and best wishes to you guys who teams race, hope the festive season goes well.
Why oh why do you have to pay to get in is my bugbear, have crewed and even years ago at our local track it cost us,off hand driver and 1 crew max were free, well if driver takes partner and has 3-4 crew it costs to be there, bearing in mind you get to see bugger all of the meeting, and take into account travel to meeting, travel to fix car midweek.
Come on promotors give the teams(especially a break)a few more tickets.Afterall the guys(stockcars)do it hard as guys from Greymouth, and smaller areas have said.
