watching 5T at baypark with 20 odd cars in the feild, he seems to have issues getting thru traffic Funny that the last time 5t raced at baypark he started 17th in the feature and finished a close 2nd passing 2nz and 3nz on the way.

TeMarua is a lot different to other tracks so I think the locals definitly have an advantage, there is going to be a few surprises instore for the out of town drivers not to use to a tight track.
2nz 10w 1nz/98w

After following and being around Saloon racing for the last few years, crewing on cars, been apart of DHL South and North Island series, and seeing most of the cars on the entry list race more than just once, my pick is:
1NZ=2NZ Brent McClymont 2NZ=5T Darryl Ainsley 3NZ=74A Scott Landsdowne
With 1NZ Steve Williams, 48A Phil Towgod, 59A Bryan Skelton and 46M/3NZ not far behind.

Real tough to pick a top 3
1nz - Terry Corin? 2nz - Steve Williams? 3nz - Phil Towgood?
Really tough to rule out Ainsley or McClymont though....
Will be a awesome battle

Moisture in the track alnight Phil has to be in the top 2. As long as he stops testing the walls. Lunchbox

My thoughts are that last seasons 1nz, 2nz, 3nz will fight it out for the top three spots again, All three are class drivers with experience to burn.
I think other contenders are 48a, 74a and possibly 5t. Phil seems to be struggling to pass cars a little this season perhaps other cars are improving in standard, Lansdowne is very fast and 5t has shown he has pace but struggles a little in traffic.

The rubbish will stop on final night when all the top guys show all there cards...... 5-6 top cars all capable of pulling off a heat wins with a good grid draw but who can come through from the back and stay out of trouble for the 3 races...??
Terry Corin 1st Brent (Stick) 2nd Who cares.....
Ps: I wounder if Mr Williams will give someone a serving when leaving the dummy grid in the pits this year??

...(Think I would have 5T in at least Green though)?! No question, 5T ... Darryl Ainsley is a very tidy and talented driver with an awesome car! A championship meeting calls on a different set of skill sets, in addition to those at regular meetings, including experience. there are many alternative worthy racers who may well end up on the podium, and many ending up behind the tow truck. One of the skill sets will be avoiding the missiles and not being intimidated by those doing the firing! Hey, won't be the first or last time I've made the wrong call! As with the super saloons, increasingly, it is not enough to have the 'race skills', these must be matched with dollars invested. The saloon class is destined on it it's present course to become the premier 'saloon class' for the rich, with the Supers being stolen by stealth and transformed in to a 'late model' variation. The weather forecast doesn't inspire confidence with a 20% chance of showers predicted for Friday and Saturday, worsening for Sunday! I will bet you $13 that 5T is in the top three if he is you owe me 13$ if not I owe you 00$

Going on the last years form in Wellington 1nz, 2nz and 46a were racing about 1 second per lap faster than most of the best of the rest. So I would have to put at least one of them on the podium. Of the locals 42w, 10w, 24w and 17w are all quick on their day with probably the consistently quicker being 42w and 10w. Until the NZ mods I hadn’t even heard of 5t but it has to be said he really gave the w cars a driving lesson in the last saloon race of the night (admittedly a lot of cars were taken out in the second heat). So my picks
1nz 10w 2nz 46a 3nz 5t
