Ya better ask the bean counters, id say under 2000. Grandstand always looks full from side on.

Most people i spoke to thought the number of fans present was pretty poor .Heaps of seating in the grandstand . Can remember lining up at the gate to get a ticket in the past . Casualy bowl up , grab a ticket and you are in .. As one fan said to me tonite , How long can Waikaraka Park keep flogging a dead horse , every year the event gets less and less attractive . I decided to flag night two and headed home ..

i too think numbers were very low, not like years gone by were there was basically standing room only on both nights, other than that not too bad of a night.

Agreed - numbers looked pretty poor really. And stiffing the punters $30 for night one with only 6 teams present and some pretty average racing* isn't going to encourage anyone other than the fanatics back tonight either.
* Not knocking the show that was put on, but it was not a $30 race meeting. And to give credit where it is due the track was one of the best I have seen at any venue this season - 2 lanes of drivey track all evening.

You guys also need to remember a few things. The club didn't run the event last year in fear of going bankrupt, there was an uproar, so the club do all they can to run the event this year and your STILL pregnant doging. It was Friday night and most people have to work and cant always get the time off to go or have families and may only be able to afford to go on night 2 due to economical times. Money doesn't grow on trees like it used too. The meeting was well run last night and the racing was bloody awesome, its been a while since Ive seen Superstock teams racing and i had a great night, as did the people around me.
Crowd numbers were always going to be down on the Friday but i have no doubt they will pick up tonight.
If you thought last night was bad you obviously didn't go to Meeanee last weekend.
Go tonight, support the club and help make sure the event happens next year.

I think they will struggle to get same numbers or even more tonight. Charging $35 tonight is steep and plus many people that i have spoken to whom went last night arent going tonight cause they are going to the Warriors as its $20 to watch 2 games of league.
Maybe its time to move the date of the event to a week or two after Palmy teams so the Waikaraka park event looks more attractive to south island teams and plus there is not much on in Auckland during the month of Feb.

dont know about moving it closer to palmy turtle drivers wont have time to repair cars and from what i heard a few south island drivers where keen to come up and race but couldnt get a team together malcom and matt ngatai both put there hands up to race in a team but couldnt quite get one together personally i wont be attending tonight $35 is very steep considering its an extra $15 to get in grandstand at palmy with an awesome atmosphere and racing to boot ;D

was just a thought..........
Maybe then its time to think to try and not clash with opening round of NRL where the warriors are going to get round abour 40,000 tonight at Eden Park or normally 25,000 at Mt Smart.
Or other option is not to be SOOOOOO greedy and only charge a max of $25.00 to full the place again. Get it back to how it use too be.

Personally I think yhat money is still tight and to expect people with families to pay this type of money is a big ask
My thoughts are charge the same as usual and if you have to yurn people away rather than goin for the jugular and not many turn up $20-00 pr nite max

Dont make up excuses for the poor numbers present . This is Auckland , the countrys biggest city . Seen a bigger crowd at a Rotorua club night . Agree that there was some good racing , but certainly a real dead atmosphere .

I hope the club is happy. If i read rightly they didnt get 5000 over 2 nights last time they ran it and said they would be happy if they got the same or more this time. Auckland and Huntly both are notorious for slow Fridays and big Saturdays so im hoping, and feeling that they should be about right, especially with the concession offered, and Waikato and Roto having good team in the finals may entice more people from those regions too.
I think seperating price between premiere events, minor championship events and club events is something that needs to be done to help grow the sport, because only having a $5 difference between an absolute club night, and a premiere event when the costs are hugely different is crazy.

actually I thought it one of the better sized friday night crowds I have seen at Waikaraka . Teams were a bit tame the first time round but stepped up for second outings. Stockcars were entertaining , saloons good enough , track was great. I left happy and am looking forward to tonight.
The sound system is still rubbish , very little audible value from the commentary team and a big part of the atmosphere not being realised.

Drive down Ponsonby Rd, there are hundreds of cafes down there full of people drinking their fancy coffee..Speedway is not everybody's cup of tea. I was happy with last nights racing. To Bernie and the Team - Thanks guys - alot of hard work went into this event and I think it went really well. See ya on the back straight making lots more noise tonight -

we finished up down at the Pacifica Festival at Western Springs. Thousands there , traffic jams , $10 to park and still a mile to walk. And that's just one of the many attractions in the Big City.
