Hi All
Not much of an update from the last meeting in palmy.
Nothing exciting really happened in the first one and I struggled through not making much ground - wish this bloody cold would go away.
Second race was more interesting in the rain. Once we got going I went through my tear offs in about three laps, and with mud smugged across my visor I could either pull off, drive blind, or pull the visor up. I choose option C and it worked alright while I struggled to get the car to get the car to handle.
With one lap to go I got a huge clum of dirt landing on my right eye - I tried to wipe it off but it was pretty well stuck. I finished the race and was back to see the ambo staff to flush half the track surface out of my eye.
When wondering back I saw a car flying backwards across pits. "poor buggers" i though until I got closer and thought "thats my car" The winch gave out when the car was nearly in the bus and it rolled backwards down the ramp and across the pits at a fair rate of knots with my pit crew on the side. With some quick thinking Cameron put shoved it in gear to lock the back wheels to avoid taking the cars (and people) out ont he opposite side of the pits.
With the winch broken I had to drive in the bus (not an easier task with 10mm clearance wither side of the bumper and a new car which I haven't quite figured out the corners + a racing clutch).
First attempt I drove up the ramp and into the side. Attempt to the car sat there wheel spinning due to the wet so attempt three with some help from some guys in the pits (cheers guys, didn't get a chance to thank you) I drove into the bus.
So with the meeting ending there rained out we heading back to Wanganui.
Washing the car this afternoon sure was a mission!
Next meeting is Placemakers in Wellington.
