Refs call without the benefit of video , the call was bad though and prevented Gaskin finishing the job in heat three. I've just got off the phone to Pete. He has some very interesting comments to make of the entire issue, extremely interesting in fact, and will be on LiveSPORT radio at 10.05am tomorrow (Friday) morning to talk about it - and many other things, of course. what frequency is that in the wanganui area

Is the pole line itself counted as part of the infield or as part of the racing surface?

Congratulations to Pete for another title.
Good to see that Paul had a crack that from the footage does not look that bad.
Don't think Paul is a cheat, but is someone who can read a race and do what needs to be done when required.
Have herd alot of people say that Rees went over pole in heat 3 to push cars wide in turn 1, is there any footage.
Think Gaskin car prob best looking on the track from what I have seen.
Did anything happen to 97p for his turn 3 pole line cutting to take cars in heat 3?
Anyone got footage of these moves?

To me that looks as though Gaskin's wheel doesn't go "over" the pole line. His wheel was on the pole line. So my question is; does the pole line begin immediately where track hits concrete or does the entire concrete strip constitute the "pole line"?

Saw the hit, thought it was a goodie, but then saw that gaskin took off to the infield and stayed there. Perhaps something to do with seeking santury perhaps???

Looking at this i see petes left wheel over pole line too?? Bit of bad luck PG was trailered for this good hit. But then again he was the only one that is willing to have a good go at stopping pete from getting the title. Bring on the teams i say

Refs call without the benefit of video , the call was bad though and prevented Gaskin finishing the job in heat three. This in a time when there is the potential and technology for a replay of some nature. Now call me crazy or idiotic BUT if an infraction incurred the race could be stopped, footage checked and offending parties removed or no action taken. The idea of being removed from a NZ championship because a "ref saw it this way" isnt really acceptable in this day and age.

I suggested this way back at Teams Champs time suggesting the use of 4 cameras, but the idea was shot down by most saying the camera doesn't pick everything up, and the cost would be too much to bear for SNZ....I still disagree. We live in a technology rich world now, it's about time the sport started to embrace it for more than just electronic lap scoring me thinks.

So my question is; does the pole line begin immediately where track hits concrete or does the entire concrete strip constitute the "pole line"? where the track meets the concrete is the line. a easier way to explain is the track is made of clay, and the track is where you race, so once you hit concrete you are on the poleline and deemed off the track. interpretation is wide and varied between officials (as are all rules ) and seems to be open to the refs discretion

Paul would not resort to cheating cos both Richard and his dad would kick his a$$!!!
Such a shame. maybe there needs to be a moveable and resizeable sensor placed around the infield limit.. that can register when a car goes over it. ping everyone at once.

r12-3-5 (g) "any competitor unfairly using the pole line to advantage by placing one or more wheels over the pole line to eliminate another competitor will be fined and excluded." i guess the word "unfairly" is what leads to interpretation and differing views. get rid of that and it is fairly simple and easy to enforce, provided it is seen and not missed by the one eye that may be shut. ;D

Dear Paul, Bad luck on what was a harsh call mate. Trust me we know how it feels to be on the end of a dodgy, split second call on the pole line. We hope that in the future you are not scrutinized as hard and as regularly as what we are on the issue. Keep your chin up. All the best and good on you for having a go. Kind regards Nelson Tigers
