Hey Brian yes I know the car. I built it and raced it at Meeanee in the 90's. pm or ring me I have all the details of the car and a photo record of its construction. Briefly chassis was built in Invercargill and one piece fibreglass body by Ivan Burney. Ran a B20a stock motor later fitted with a LHD power steer unit. Wheels were 8in rims and stock car tyres.

For a start at mere mere but would like to race at either waikaraka or Huntly also. Goal is to finish it get setup close and swap over to other side of car as at mere mere we turn right. I no it wont be perfect but good start point. But with current rule changes to supers "rwd only" and they can changes rules for limited class when ever they feel like it now isnt looking promising for me getting to speedway with a fwd chassis

You should see if you can get hold of the Davis Honda racing team - they run a pair of fwd hondas, on right hook one left hook. both run at meremere and both are used for snz as well. heres thier facebook page - www.facebook.com/davisteamhondaracing?fref=ts

Hi Twanga, My name is Rick McLaren and I am the owner of Rod McLaren Racing (1980 to 2000). Let me help you with some information. The Hondas you are talking about were designed and built by Alec Brown and the late Ivan Burney at Alec's workshop in Otatara which is just out of Invercargill. Alec had been involved in chassis design on circuit cars and speedway cars for many years. Ivan started racing in Minis and was intent on building the first space frame front wheel drive car in speedway. Their collaboration lead to the building of many giant killing Hondas. For clarification your photo of my 2 Ampol sponsored Hondas - the 9C car is the car built for my father Rod McLaren(I believe it was the second car built. Racing No 33I and later named Jane Honda) and in your photo is being driven by my team driver Paul Williams of Kaiapoi. The 0c car is the first Honda built by Burney and Brown and it was built for Ivan Burney (Racing No 8I). It is the car pictured in Invercargill with the bonnet removed in your latest posting. In the Ampol picture it is being driven by my other driver Roger Nees (Flash). The chassis are the same however 9C is a 2.0 twin cam and the 0C is a 2.2 V-Tech. You say that Roger Nees has looked and told you that your car is not his 0C car (and we rebuilt every inch of those 2 cars so he would know)therefore it can not be the one in your latest picture. I sold 0C (8I) back to Ivan in Invercargill but Ivan has passed away and I am unsure of where it is. Another clue is that our team rebuilt both cars from the ground up and they both have a white powder coated space frame and all the aluminium panelling is also powder coated white (I accept that the powder coating may have been removed) Also for your information the car pictured in your latest post was raced extensively in the North Island by Ivan and in fact won the New Zealand Limited Saloon title (cant remember where in N Island) racing against 19 V8s. Shame is both Ivan and Rod have passed away as they both have encyclopaedic knowledge of all these Hondas. Hope this helps. Cheers Rick .J

Hi Rick thanks heaps for your info great to get some more history.
I understand what u say about the powder coating etc. And have spoken to flash along time ago about it. He thought that mine was the car from Auckland but i wasnt sure about that as i couldnt find any info about it up here. On saturday i caught up with guy named warrick who posted on this thread awhile ago he thought it was his but there was some differences.
I.e mine had a steel firewall and floor pan and his didnt. My battery was mounted right beside pedals and his was on right hand side of frame by exhaust. And my alloy paneling was different to his. He also noted Ivans chassis was red and his was blue again this could of been painted.
When i seen this picture of Ivans car i straight away noticed the seat with the honda badge stiched into it i got that with my car unless there was more made? You can notice a cardwells sticker on the alloy paneling right behind the driver on a angle. Mine has this in the same place again i understand this could have been done later. Also the master cylinder setup with pipes sticking above the alloy paneling is how mine was.
One key thing you maybe able to help with is the left rear trailing arm was sprung loaded and came through into the cockpit and could be tentioned. Im guessing this was so when the rear got unloaded to turn into the corner it would shortern the left hand side and help it turn in. Did they all have this?
Also i brought the car from a guy named Neil believe he or his son raced down there with one that had a body like the jane honda on it but was blue. Neil rekons my car was Ivans car.
Did hear of his passing sad to hear
Hope we can maybe work out which one mine is apricate your help
Regards brian
