The audio from today's show will be on the LiveSPORT website early tomorrow morning, and tomorrow's show will be up by about midday. I'll post the links here as I get time.
A big thanks to today's guests, especially Christopher Bell and Chris McCutcheon for coming into the studio for an hour. A slight mix up in plans saw Bryan Clauson join us via phone instead of being seated with the other two.
Tomorrow we have SNZ CEO Tim Savell on to begin Hour 1, and Palmy North promoter Bruce Robertson to kick off Hour 2. Other than that it's Midget drivers with mostly funny accents!! Rico Abreu (with a couple of tee shirts to give away), Darren Hagen and Jerry Coons Jnr will be in the studio representing the United States, Matt Jackson will be left to his own devices to defend the Australian connection as we understand it, and Brad Mosen and Michael Pickens will be in for the locals. Matt might have to bring in the cardboard cut out of Nathan Smee to keep him company!!
The next show will be December 27th, where we'll have coverage of the Boxing Night action from the Springs as well as looking at the Super Saloon GP (Baypark) and NZ Stockcar Championship meetings (Palmerston North) in some depth.

I can only apologise for the shambles of a show today. I was supplied with, in writing by Springs Promotions Limited, a list of names who would be in the studio at different times over the last two days. Today they had scheduled in Darren Hagen, Brad Mosen, Matt Jackson, Jerry Coons Jnr, Rico Abreu and Michael Pickens, and only the latter two turned up. I know SPL has some sort of problem with their server(s) being down, but I would have thought there were other avenues of communication with their drivers, and also whereby I could have been advised about any no shows. People have other committments, and I don't mind that in the least, but when 4 out of 6 pull a no-show with no notice, it's fair to say it puts a strain on the relationship between our sport and the radio station (which we've slowly built up over coming-up 5 years and almost 250 shows).
A huge thanks to Christopher Bell/Tim Clark and Chris McCutcheon for coming in yesterday, Bryan Clauson for phoning in and spending valuable time on the phone with us when he didn't receive his message in time to get a ride in, and to Rico Abreu/Aaron Drever/Chuck Gurney and Michael Pickens for filling in the 2 hour void this morning. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of what happened to all of the others, it may well not be their fault, or SPL's, but it's also fair to say when you sit up half the night making notes based on who you believe is turning up the next morning, and 2/3rds of them go straight in the bin while those that do front have to talk for 45 minutes instead of 10-15 each, it's a little frustrating.
The next show will be December 27th, where we'll have coverage of the Boxing Night action from the Springs as well as looking at the Super Saloon GP (Baypark) and NZ Stockcar Championship meetings (Palmerston North) in some depth.

The December 27th show is half put together already, the two main focusses being the Super Saloon GP (Baypark) and the NZ Stockcar Champs (Palmerston North). They'll be giveaway family pass tickets to both events (as well as more tickets to Western Springs).
Interviews confirmed to date are with Malcolm Sines, looking at the recent NI Super Saloons event at Meeanee as a lead in to the Grand Prix, and with form racers including Ben Harding, Dean Waddell, Matt Smith, Ian Burson and Mark Osborne.
Not as far down the track with the Stockcar segment, but defending champion Peter Rees is confirmed.
Merry Xmas everybody....

The shows for the next two days (December 30/31) are rather up in the air at this stage, as the first one at least was to focus around the big meetings at Western Springs and Palmerston North which both got hit by the weather last night. Hopefully Palmy will at least get qualifying completed tonight, but we obviously won't be talking to the winner tomorrow morning. And despite the forecast the weather in Auckland is clearing, bit it means the line up for 9.00am tomorrow morning will not be finalized until sometime late tonight.

The line up for today's show is still in the planning stages as I head for the studio, due to people having no cell coverage, having to catch planes, the weather etc etc etc. We hope to catch Bruce Robertson before he boards a flight to Auckland to find out what the plans are around the PN meetings, and likewise Greg Mosen at WS. Luke Keegan joins us, as does Bunter Pierce and Steve Lennon re the NZ Mods. We also have Super Saloon GP Champ Mark Osborne, Malcolm Sines, new SI Superstock Champ Craig Boote and defending NZ Stockcar Champ Peter Rees. There will the others - we're just not sure who yet!!

Right, today was the day we hoped to have three of the visiting American Midget drivers in the studio for an hour, but due to our inability to get a response from ANY of them all afternoon/evening, OR anybody else associated with their cars for that matter, the decision was made at 9pm last night (there has to be a cut-off point) to do a different kind of show today. We suspect there was some kind of trip or function for them all yesterday which put them all out of cell phone range, and we will try and rectify the situation and have them in on January 3rd, the eve of the 50 Lapper. A huge thanks to all of those that agreed late last night to come on this morning at short notice, and to Joe Faram, we accept it's probably difficult to talk whilst flying a helicopter!! Joe will be on the Jan 3 show too.
Right, today therefore becomes more of a Stockcar and Superstock show, with Craig Boote, Shane Penn, Malcolm Ngatai, Peter Rees and Dale Robertson all on in the first hour.
Hour 2 features the brand new NZ Stockcar champion Jayden Ward plus Ben Harding, Ian Burson and Mark Osborne as well as a couple of local Midget drivers (they will only be contacted this morning, so TBA)

Here's the link to today's show, certainly a little different to originally planned and even a little different to what we thought at 9am. Hour 1 = Shane Penn, Craig Boote, Malcolm Ngatai, Peter Rees then Peter Rees & Dale Robertson together (talking teams). Hour 2 = Ben Harding & Ian Burson together, Aaron White (Alexandra Park commentator and speedway fan), Mark Osborne, Michael Pickens and Hayden Williams. Jayden Ward slept in this morning (understandably), but will be on first up, January 3rd. www.radiolivesport.co.nz/Summer-Speedway-show-3112/tabid/454/articleID/16799/Default.aspxBarry B

The January 3rd show this Friday morning (9am-11am) is shaping up really well. It will kick off with the brand new NZ Stockcar Champion Jayden Ward (PN) followed by the 2012 NZ Superstock Champion Joe Faram (HB). Then it will be into the famed Midget 50 Lapper from Western Springs with a bunch of studio guests. We've received confirmation for most now, and the lineup will include Rico Abreu (USA), Adam Clarke (AUS), Bryan Clauson (USA), Michael Pickens (NZ) and Christopher Bell (USA). We hope to pre-record other interviews to play during the week next week. .
There will also be tickets to Western Springs to be won!!
We will also be doing some studio stuff with the NZ Super Saloons Champs the following week, making the most of the drivers being in Auckland. It will probably be on the Thursday morning, but the drivers will need to be contacted first to see just who is available, and when. This will all be confirmed early next week.
Let's do it on the terracotta,
Barry B

Boy oh boy, once again that show turned out to be a bit different to what we walked in the door expecting. Below is the link. www.radiolivesport.co.nz/Summer-Speedway-show-0301/tabid/454/articleID/16800/Default.aspxJoe Faram are Jayden Ward (thanks guys) are around the other way to that advertised above, no Adam Clarke (could not be found) and no Michael Pickens (was busy working on the Sprintcar, but later we had a studio issue which saw him not get to air, via phone, as then planned). Technical issues within the studio distracted me enough that I forgot to give away the NZ Modified tickets too - sorry about that. A big thanks to Aaron Drever and Rico Abreu for their half hour in the studio, and to Bryan Clauson and Christopher Bell for coming in for the second hour. Also to Nik Brown on the phone. I'm glad we've got the weekend off now to evaluate how we're going to tackle the next two weeks. I'm not sure whether it's because we're on 1 hour earlier this year (speedway has historically had a 10am start other years, but that was not possible this summer if we wanted 2 hour shows as somebody else now owns the 11am-noon slot) but we've had a lot of problems this time around. Not so much with getting people to commit to the show, but actually still being available (and at the agreed time!!) once they've made that commitment. Once on air it's not easy to shuffle things around too much obviously (my ability to multi-task while talking on the radio is severely limited!!), and we've had to do it every day so far, with the exception of one. Some people have been extremely apologetic, others just don't get it, and it certainly dents one's enthusiam for the job when I weigh up how much racing I'm missing this summer to sit in that studio. How some competitors think not waking up, turning up or picking up is acceptable is beyond me, but despite re-confirming the appointment with virtually all guests both the night before and again on the morning of the interview, we still have drivers going AWOL. I have many times over the years been asked why I use certain drivers and not others. Some unfortunately just do not talk that well on the phone, others cannot talk without swearing, and the radio bosses are obviously wary of both of those things. But the biggest thing I look for is dependability - if they say they will be available at a certain time on a certain day, they make sure they are available at that certain time on that certain day....or at least give me a little warning that they will not be. To be fair, most of the people have been sensational, but when you're dealing with 10-12 guests per day it only takes one or two not playing ball to make the whole thing come across extremely amateurish when we're trying to sound professional and be taken seriously as a sport. Rant over. Next Monday morning hopefully we have a show chock full of champion drivers, with the Midget 50 Lapper, the NZ Superstock title and the NZ Modified title all up for grabs over the weekend.
