And since things got a little behind and hectic towards the end, I was running late anyway and then we had to add in some promo stuff for the station, which should have been done some hours before but had to be squeezed in at the last moment, my planned final segment got cut rather short. This is basically what I was going to say, and who I was going to thank.
She’s been a tough 3½ weeks since we kicked off on December 23rd with our first Summer Speedway Special for the summer of 2013/14, but we've got there. Big thanks go out to many people obviously; without whom this could not have happened. Firstly to my real employer, Dysart ITM out there in Glen Innes, for allowing me the month off work to do this at a very busy time for them. Secondly to Scott Walker and LiveSPORT for the use of their studios. To Anand Hira and Steven Brown, my Tech Producers throughout this year’s shows. To Tim Savell and Speedway New Zealand; thanks team. To all the speedway clubs and promotions, especially those that gave us stuff to give away; Waikaraka Park, Western Springs, Baypark, Rotorua, Stratford, Palmerston North, Woodford Glen and Cromwell. To all of our many guests, both studio and phone; we had a lot of fun. And obviously to you, the listeners, for tuning in for another summer - thank you so much, and a big congratulations to those of you that won some of the probably thousands of dollars worth of tickets and gear that we gave away.
Nathan Rarere will be back in the chair next week, and speedway will revert to two interviews per week, around 9.30am each Tuesday morning. Will we do it again next summer? We’ll have to wait and see. I’ve been doing this for 5 years now and we’re fast approaching 250 speedway shows produced, maybe somebody else’s turn? But what I’ve really noticed this time around is the amount of Championship racing I’ve missed this summer to remain in Auckland to do the show, not to mention the time it takes to arrange each day (averages around 4 hours of prep per hour on air). The 2 hours in the studio is actually the easy bit (mind you, Auckland traffic makes it a 4 hour show), but new technology is coming along all the time that might make it possible to pre-record sections of the show from home the night before instead of having to try and wake people up in the morning for a 9am interview when they’ve only been home in some cases a few short hours (or less). Like everybody in speedway I have a real job too, and trying to juggle the two this summer has lead to a string of 16-18 hour days and working 7 days per week, and one can only do that for so long. I’m also the sort of person that if I can’t give it 100%, I’d rather not be doing it at all, so hopefully we can sort out a few things over the next 11 months to make this happen again next Xmas, as it really is fun to be a part of.
If you’re listening and thinking about getting out to a speedway near you, stop just thinking about it and just do it!!!!!! There are 24 SNZ tracks scattered all over New Zealand, so nobody is too far away from one. Western Springs, Waikaraka Park and Rosebank Domain here in Auckland, and there’s Huntly in the Waikato, Kihikihi in the King Country and Baypark and Paradise Valley across in the BoP. Then we have Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Stratford, Wanganui, Palmerston North and Te Marua down there in Wellington. Across Cook Strait we have Blenheim and Nelson, and down the West Coast both Westport and Greymouth. Christchurch has 3 with Woodford Glen, Ruapuna and Moore Park, while in the beautiful Central Otago sits the picturesque Cromwell facility. There’s Beachlands there in Dunedin, while across to Invercargill are the final two, Riverside and Oreti Park. Some of these tracks are Open Wheel only facilities, others just for Bikes; many race all sorts of our many classes. Basically there’s something out there for everybody, whether you be potential competitor or potential spectator. I hope to see you there. Until then, enjoy the rest of the summer and stay safe on the roads. Remember, the dirt is for racing on, the tar seal is just for getting there....

Link to last week's interviews, with Andrew Aldridge, Hayden Williams and Malcolm Sines www.radiolivesport.co.nz/Spotlight-on-Sport---Motorsport/tabid/454/articleID/17396/Default.aspxTomorrow's show will be focusing on the Superstock Teams Nationals. There is also a new weekly Sunday morning motorsport show due to hit the airwaves of at the end of this month (more news on that when it actually becomes official). This is right at the end of our current local speedway season obviously, but there will be regular speedway content on that show as well as the on-going Tuesday morning session, including reports from the SNZ AGM and local drivers competing overseas over our winter months before we launch into next summer's major meetings.

When will draw be done for Auckland team

Post by BarryB on Mar 3, 2014 18:04:22 GMT 12
At this stage it will be done at the track as part of the Grand Parade.....with seven confirmed teams (round robin style format) and attempts being made to get an eighth (which would make it two groups of 4), it's impossible to do the draw tomorrow morning.
