my2cents:- Hi Tim. My question comes form the Wanganui V Manawatu Superstock teams race in Palmerston North over the weekend (Not the race itself but what could have been). If no cars manage to cross the finish line after completing the allocated number of laps Do the results go back to find the car that has completed the highest number of laps and they become the winner. Or is there no points for either team as all cars are DNF, as part of the tactics is to stop the other team from finishing. This question had the Motel split 50/50 and discussion went on late into the night.
P.S If you are going to give some sort of PC answer or say its up to the promoter what would be your personal preference
Easily answered by a couple of rules from the 2013 Teams Racing Code of Ethics R12-4-64 The vehicle must cross the finish-line and receive the chequered flag to be deemed to have finished the race. R12-4-69 Any vehicle not receiving the chequered flag is recorded as a DNF.
No finishers would therefore result in the race being declared 0-0
The last teams race I'm aware of that featured no finishers was in 1994 (Rotorua vs Baypark), so it has happened.

Tim, having sent Speedway Nz emails in the past asking how to get involved and expressing interest in training to become a steward or referee I never received a response. How do you get involved, and do Speedway NZ recruit new officials ?? To be honest not getting a response was poor, however I love this sport and love being involved. Would be interested in hearing how you recruit or train ?? Thanks Matt
The complicating factor is that officials are nominated by tracks, not Speedway NZ (as mentioned earlier the Board has tried to have this changed in the past, without success).
So in the first instance, you need to contact the track you are interested in officiating at - as no, SNZ isnt able to recruit as such. Once an official is nominated, SNZ undertakes the relevant training for the position, be it Referee, Steward, Scrutineer, Clerk of the Course or Electronic Lapscoring.
Hope this helps.

Devilracer:- When is SNZ going to start vetting tracks and getting tougher on who gets what championships. Drivers spend a lot of money on cars these days and often get a raw deal and pi$$ poor tracks and racing.
Pretty sure I've answered this a number of times throughout this thread. SNZ gets involved where the rules allow it, but ultimately the titles are allocated by the tracks at the AGM in June.

WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN: 1. Rotate your blue shirts between venues and start blooding the new breed. 2. 2 paid officials at each track that have to stand up and be accountable for their decisions and risk release (demotion) if they are not up to the job. (e.g. like NRL refs). IS THIS UNREASONABLE Peter Gwilliam 1 - As mentioned, tracks nominate officials so rotation relies on the relevant tracks being happy to have the officials at the track. We certainly encourage it. 2 - SNZ Officials are volunteers for a number of reasons, not least of which is that OSH has no jurisdiction over speedway as a result. Changing this approach would have to be thought through exceptionally carefully, particularly due to the law of unintended consequences. And how much would they be paid? $200 a race meeting would require an extra $400,000 revenue a year to implement, and currently the entire budget for the sport is around $800,000. If members are happy enough to face a 50% fee increase in order to implement this, I'm sure they'll pass the relevant motion at this years AGM (general business for the AGM closes on April 14).

OK so I think thats all the questions up to date, apart from those on no-go topics, and the ones asking where I am (answer = here, but busy).
Feel free to keep firing away, and if you got this far you deserve to be in the draw for a couple of tickets to the NZ Speedway Awards in Wellington on June 14. Head over to our Facebook pages and share and like the post about the awrds - the draw is tomorrow! www.facebook.com/SpeedwayNZ

Number 97 sidecar had bar work fitted out passed the back wheel, whats that all about Tim i do know what the rules say. Have checked with the relevant officials and the bike was not fitted with a wheelie bar. Custaxie50, show me the rule that states that I can not run the wheelie bar, I have read the rule book more times than most but maybe I'm missing it? As you have in your statement you know what the rules are, I have run it at most meetings this year and no one bar you has had a cry about it. So get over it. Mike 97p

Does SNZ have any statistics on number of drivers in Stockcars/Superstocks who get knocked out with various combinations of seats, head/neck restraint systems? Im interested because have recently spent a lot of money on a race seat only to see since that a lot of people swear against the particular seat I have purchased. If there is an obvious trend from one style of seat or head/neck restraint system causing or preventing knockouts/ serious injuries would this be published by SNZ?
Cheers Tim Wildey

hi tim,
sorry if this subject has already been brought up but ill ask it anyway...
whats the chances of snz stepping in and trying to sort out the issue with hoosier racing tyres in nz?
everyone wants the price of racing brought down and i believe if cardwell racing supplies wasnt the only importer of this tyre we would save a huge amount, as i know what they cost to buy in the states the mark up is huge. if we could buy brand new hoosiers for half of what we are now alot more people could afford to go racing.

Hi Tim With Ashburton Speedway recently running the NZ Ministock & NZ Production Saloon Champs what are the chances that these and several other titles for example the six shooter and youth ministock titles can actually become offical and recognised as such by snz wso that the top 3 can actually wear their well earned 1,2 or 3nz on their cars etc etc

I've just deleted a dozen or so posts from this thread........remember, YOU ask some relevant questions and TIM SNZ gives some relevant answers. That's the extent of this thread.

New cages need to be built as per Rule T12-1-5(e), using Schedule 40.
