Only 5 classes this year? Or just those 5 announced so far?
One night only would be my vote!! Will it be quite the same on a Saturday night? The Thursday worked well I thought. Made it very special.

From what I gather Barry, Just 5 Classes announced so far. When I did the ad for the Huntly Program I was advised at the end of the 5 Classes to add "Plus More"

Barry B Agree there Barry, on both counts. Always liked the Thursday - meant there was no chance of a clash so always an absolute given we would be there. (the Barry Butterworth last Wednesday was great too).

OK, so what's the situation now that Speedfest is on a Sat night with competitors selected getting a release from their home track when that track is also running the same night, and running that class ? This problem didn't happen with the event on a Thurs night.

This problem didn't happen with the event on a Thurs night. Waikaraka has a rain date for the 12th with racing TBC, Baypark are running which is really the only clashes. Competitor's wanting to race would need a clearance from their home track should they be racing.

It will be interesting. I really thought they'd stay with the Thursday night, especially with BP racing that Saturday night too. The "M" cars always feature strongly at Speedfest, and realistically both meetings will lose something by running head to head, especially with the current 1nz Sprintcar, 1nz Super Saloon and 1nz Saloon (although they're not on the list at the moment) all hailing from BP this season. Did I mention the Baypark Busters won the Palmy Teams too?

Wasn't Speedfest meant to be hosting NZ vs AUS Supersaloons/Latemodels? I remember seeing that on the card earlier in the season. Hopefully this can happen in a future season

Really silly decision...Dunno if I'll go this year. Saloon deserves to be the 6th class due to simply awesome racing in recent years. I dont know how feilds will size conflicting with Baypark as others have mentioned....Time will tell I guess, does anyone know why the date was changed??

Hi All, Speedfest was conceived as a "Showcase" of our sport to a potentially huge market of petrolhead visitors to Hamilton when the first Hamilton Street Race was run. Thursday night was used as this was the night before the V8 Supercar event started and, again, was designed to give visitors (most of whom arrived on this day) something else to do during their visit to Godzone. Speedfest has always been a logistical nightmare being on a Thursday night, with Competitors, Officials & Volunteers (i.e. the people needed to make the event happen) struggling to get time off work. While the V8 Supercar Event was in Hamilton we persevered with these issues and, to date, the best turnout of 1NZ, 2NZ & 3NZ Competitors is 15 out of 18. Last year the V8's went back to Pukekohe. We left Speedfest on the Thursday night to see if this venue shift would affect our event. Sadly, we had all the usual struggles and the crowd numbers were way down on previous years. This and the feedback we had received from Competitors, is what has prompted us to move Speedfest to a Saturday night. Unfortunately, other Tracks assumed Speedfest was still on a Thursday and this is what has caused the conflict of race meetings. Baypark's Promotor, Roger, has been most accommodating and will release any invited competitors and hopefully Auckland doesn't need their rain out date. So, all in all, Speedfest on a Saturday night, will hopefully be BIGGER AND BETTER... P.S. We have something special in mind for the 6th Class/Event, and will let you all know when it is confirmed. We are still working on the Australia vs NZ Super Sedan/Saloon Series, but just weren't able to pull it off this season. www.huntlyspeedway.co.nz

I think its a GREAT idea, as the last 2 speedfest's I have had to turn it down even the year after I won it due to starting out on my own in business BUT with this year been on a Saturday it would free a lot of people up even ME (if I get a invite)
