I'm sure the WSSCC are/were hoping to take this meeting to the next level by moving if from the Thursday night of the V8 weekend to a Saturday night, but for whatever reason that doesn't appear to have happened, not this year at least.
The danger was always going to be moving away from that captive market you had available on the Thursday night just prior to the V8's (motorsport fans, not just speedway fans), a target audience which arguably did shrink when the V8's were relocated back to Pukekohe last year, but for speedway fans now it's gone from sensational line-ups in six classes on a night when no other speedway opened its gates, to a Saturday night event which clashes with others in the region and is no longer even on the same weekend as the V8's. For both fans and visiting drivers alike, they now have choices to make. In previous years we all just loaded up our cars and headed for Huntly..........
There's still some really good fields on offer........sadly this will be the first one I've missed however.

As I have mentioned earlier, it was becoming harder and harder every year for competitors to get time off work when holding Speedfest on a Thursday. When we changed to Saturday the date was the same weekend as V8 Supercars, but then they changed their date... And as people had already booked accommodation/flights, etc... we couldn't change ours to follow suit. Couple that with some rain outs and some tracks not realising we had switched to Saturday means there are clashes this year, meaning we are left with the "Best of the Best Available", as someone commented earlier. Lessons have been learned this year which will hopefully have us back on track for next years event, but this years will still be a fantastic meeting, so miss it at your peril... Cheers, Nigel www.huntlyspeedway.co.nz

Two Sprintcars have pulled out tonight ( after damage at the weekend), so it is with regret Sprintcars have now been "officially" removed from the Speedfest programme for 2014. www.huntlyspeedway.co.nz

Speedfest has always been a must see meeting in the past with the talent stacked drivers etc, , hopefully if this upcoming meeting is below par it doesn't turn the fans away in the future ...

I see 41M Terry Corrin is listed. Good to see you back Terry. Will you be in the old car or the New one? One of the future stars of Super Saloons.

I'm never really comfortable with an event that is supposedly an invite only one, it has the potential to upset a whole bunch of people and calling it " the best of the best" doesn't help. Who decides who is the best? my idea of best and yours will be different. I think speedfest should be put down now, it was done for a good reason but the reason has gone , it just seems that Huntly are trying to keep it alive when the reason for doing it has moved on. If you must have a meeting that you call "speedfest" at least have the classes that epitomise that name, Sprintcars, Super saloons, Saloons, Midgets, Modifieds, Mini sprints, Super stocks, these are the classes that should be at a speedfest.

Now that would be a meeting and a Half! Emphasise on the word 'Speed'. And end the night with a 4 lap handicapped start pole Shuffle with the 7 winners from the features. lol

Looking forward to it. Here's hoping the weather plays ball.

Just a quick note - I do know that the promoters and organisers do thier best to put on a good show every time
I know that big events like this are extremely hard to organise - my previous comment is meant to be semi cheeky. Im hoping it is as good as in previous years and that the lack of contact I have seen in the contact classes lately is thrown out forcibly!

Is the format just racing or points and trophies? In previous years its been done on points over 3 heats, so I'd presume it will be the same.
