What time will a go/no go decision be made? Heavy showers keep coming through but they are only very brief, and meant to ease off later.

I think you've just answered your own question really......they can't really make a call either way until closer to the time. It's a bit of a lose-lose situation for the promotion, as at the moment it's going from sunshine to rain every 5 minutes....sometimes both at the same time!! Let's do it on the terracotta, Barry B

Facebook states they are still go however it has just started raining again. Today might be their best hope as the weather forecast is crap tomorrow. And has anyone looked at the 10 day forecasts for Auckland, Tauranga and Napier? Mother Nature is a b....

Yes blue skys indeed and therefore my backside will be trackside. Good lineups for the Midgets and Sprintcars and an interesting looking Super Saloon field. Will Harding dominate or will the Baypark boys take it to him?

It really did need Harding, Hata, Dyer and Carter to add some depth to the field. Well done to Matt Smith on his feature win.

I felt this meeting came up materially short of the $25 entry fee.
An understandibly late start due to track conditions was compounded by inflexible promoting, a slow infield crew and officials who decided to run the meeting on Fiji time. The meeting ended up going for around 5 hours once the Fireworks and Demo Derby had taken place.
The 6-car Super Saloon field was saved by 46m Matt Smith and 96a Lance Jennings locking horns in heat 1 and the feature. Aside from that they were dead boring. The promotion was also extremely fortunate that Rotorua was cancelled as it saved the Superstock field. There were 17 of them in attendance. I'd say close to half of them would have been at Rotorua had they been racing. How the promotion thought 10 Superstocks would showcase the "best" of Waikaraka Park as this meeting is supposed to be I'll never know.
Sprintcars numbered 11 and for reasons known only to the Lord above were run in a 2 out of 3 heat format. 7 and 8 car heats - yippee. The track was also very one-laned for the open wheel classes due to the wet pole line. Neither the Midgets nor the Sprintcars were able to showcase what those classes are capable of.
The usually drama filled pole shuffles were thwarted by the track. The outside car getting the jump and prevailing every time. The derby cars did what derby cars do. At least they had 60 odd for the Derby. It was a pretty standard derby, not much happened. The fireworks were good and very loud.
At least the meeting attracted a very large crowd and the promotion should have made a profit. However I don't imagine too many will be back next week for the King of the Park finale. Would be hard to find much enthusiasm after that effort.
