The 1nz, 2nz & 3nz Sprintcars among the 19 entries, Terry Corin at Baypark for the first time in the former Dean Waddell 81m Super Saloon, Six Shooters strutting their stuff with a large field to boot, a fantastic field of Midgets (26 cars) and a quality line up to contest the Bay Champs for Saloons (25 cars). No split heats here. I'm liking it........

Seems there's a couple of Sprintcars to come off the list, and 3 more Midgets to go on. Will update later when time allows.

Can someone please post the Saloon and Super Saloon results please. Anthony A cold night with a sparse crowd, punctuated by frequent delays to the racing with spins, faulty lights, slackness and incidents. Outcome due to delays and a failure to reduce race laps to compensate - technically shouldn't have started the feature for the Sprint cars (after 9:50Pm) and we were missed out on the super saloon feature!
1NZ Chris Cowling wins the Saloon Feature and Baypark champs after a hard fought battle to hold off 2NZ Brent McClymont. 16 cars with great support from Stratford and visitors.
Terry Corin in 81m super saloon struggled on the rough (in the turns) drivey track, first time out at Baypark in Dean's car. Michele Wymer and Steve Cowling come together in the feature, turn three pole line, with Michele rearranging the front of her car into the wall turn 4.

The Super Saloons were awarded as per what the grid would have been for the Feature, 76m, 63a and 7m. It was a shame their Feature was lost, but with so many time consuming incidents earlier in the night something had to give and I think the right call was made on which were run and the one that wasn't.
Bay Saloon Champs was 1nz, 2nz and 82m, Six Shooters to 69a Daniel Thomas, Midgets to 3nz Hayden Williams and Sprintcars to 3nz Jamie McDonald.

Overall I thought it was a good show.
The large baypark track allowed the Six Shooters to showcase what the class is capable of. It is the first time I have found the six shooters to be remotely interesting. With 20+ cars on the big Baypark track they put on a good show. A couple of big crashes for Rodney Wood and Ella Edwards.
Saloons also numbered just over 20. The fastest to the front final was yet another win for the format with a great battle between1 & 2nz. Also battling for 3rd were the 75m of Michelle Wymer and 271m Steve Cowling. The battle ending in abrupt curcumstances when Cowling went hard into 3&4, collecting Wymer and spearing her off into the fence.
Midgets had a foregettable opening heat as caution after caution disrupted the flow. Those making big moves forward were 44a Leon Burgess and 17a Carl Worboys. 3nz Hayden Williams won from the front. The reverse draw heat 2 went smoother which meant those starting down the back didn't have the time to make it through to the front. Burgess ran away with it. 26a Ryan O'Connor and 98a Chris Gwilliam made a late pass on Worboys in traffic to round out the podium. The handicapped fastest to the rear feature sensationally ran green to checkers for the 30-lap duration. 10a Jared Taylor and 42s Greg Jones got away from the front of the field. A fierce battle developed for third featuring O'Connor, Gwilliam, Williams and one other driver whose name escapes me. Williams wouuld ultimately be the man to escape that pack and ran down both Jones and Taylor. Williams made the pass with about 3 to go to take the win from Taylor, Gwilliam, O'Connor and Jones. Top qualifier Worboys got lapped!
76m Karl Hanlon was the donimant force in the Super Saloons. Whilst others went high exploring different lines Hanlon was able to get the bottom working in turns 3&4 which lead to a number of passes. 63a Ben Harding looked to be the best of the rest with a pair of thirds.
A 15 car Sprintcar field produced a fair amount of action. Sadly we lost 1nz Rodney Wood due to the 6 shooter crash but 3nz Jamie McDonald and 21w Steven Taylor more than made up for it. Taylor got the jump in the feature but McDonald took advantage of an error to grab the lead. A series of cautions late in the race saw Taylor launch some big moves up the inside of 1&2. On the last caution he made it stick, just about putting McDonald into the terraces. McDonald returned serve with a physical move which ultimately ended in a DNF for Taylor. 88m Keaton Dahm and 66m Skinny Colson put on a great side by side battle for 3rd early in the race. Dahm prevailed and ultimately held off 6m James Dahm for second.
The meeting wasn't without it's issues. Turn 3 dug up pretty good and was a source of constant attention for the track crew. The ELS went down which made the commentators job a challenge and a radio issue caused a delay in the opening heat. The first round of heats took 1 hour 20 minutes to run 5 races. With the show running 20, if not 25 minutes behind schedule there was no noticeable increase in urgency, particularly with regards to cars gridding up and getting races restarted after cautions.
Overall I felt I got my $20 worth

Very pleasing in deed to read ,that along speedway fan has enjoyed his outing on a Saturday night. To a venue of his favourite classes of racing I guess if you wait long enough all good things happen to those who wait ,and in this case you even get your moneys worth . Hearing the mocking bird song on the old radio ,i did wonder if it was written for someones Birdie ..

Hey Percy ...Nige Moet was racing the 63A this week :-) Thanks for the correction - it's hard to keep up with some of these driver changes! Hope to see an "A" on the side of the car again next season.

If there ever was a track that needed all it's race grids to be handicapped arrangements it's Baypark. Actually come to think of it all races at all tracks should be.

If there ever was a track that needed all it's race grids to be handicapped arrangements it's Baypark. Actually come to think of it all races at all tracks should be. I'd prefer to see it mixed up a little as opposed to ALL racing done that way, but I'd certainly like to see MORE fastest to the rear racing than what we do see these days. It's tough now with so many good drivers and many more having good gear now than historically, but so long as the races are of long enough duration to be fair it can't be a bad thing, such as the 30 lapper for Midgets on Saturday night. Maybe in 2015 the Wide-Tyred Baypark meeting should feature fastest to the back for all 5 classes on show. Over to you Roger Bailey......... Let's do it on the terracotta, Barry B
