Yes also heard about Willy getting back in. But I really hope not. This late in the piece WK is arguably the only one that could step in for one year and pull this off (as he's done it before).....although he's likely lose the Superstock class and half of his Super Saloons (any BK Series cars anyway) in double-quick time (based on historical evidence). Anybody new is likely to struggle....although may have some great new ideas. SPL does have the luxury of being a full-time promotions team however. It's mid-August and somewhere a clock it ticking........... Barry B

My guess would be that although Ron Dixon no doubt with his extremely high profile would have had the confidence and trust of the competitors and spectators the decision to give it to to SPL would have been due to a financial arrangement where as if the track is being leased at X number of dollars per meeting, SPL who only have a short season in AK would now have an extended season and capitilise on the International series running at Baypark and the Spings thereby giving the overseas drivers more meetings so therefore reducing the costs of importing the drivers. So where as it would be difficult for a promoter to say, run 15 meetings at Baypark at a profit SPL would maybe be able to run Baypark at a higher profile programme combining the international series and the best of the normal Baypark programme = more meetings so a better return for Bay venues. The downside will be the increased gate charge and maybe some classes of low numbers may be dropped. This is purely speculation on my part, and I may well be very wrong.

SPL will probably charge for car parking $5 as they do at WS

To keep the locals happy perhaps throw in a few low cost club type nights.

If Its Mosen/ Buckley, they will no doubt have meetings in mind, presumably they already have internationals coming down. anyone else including Willie would have alot of work to do to get any decent meetings underway. My problem with Mosen would be setting the track, they didnt do a very good job last season, probably the worst I have seen at Western Springs. As you have probably already guessed, i was a big fan of Ron Dixon getting the job, and still think he would do a great job, but Ron wanted a one year deal to suss the place out and for them to suss him out, but I guess they wanted more than that.

Regardless of the promotion team, it is highly unlikely that anybody could apply a parking charge as the venue has multiple users and activity areas.
A 'Google' of 'Ron Dixon promoter' certainly makes for an interesting read. I sense BP and speedway has missed a very real opportunity to attract many first timers to our sport, if for nothing else, just the chance to see, chat with Scott Dixon and the many international stars he gathers around him.
Ron Dixon: NZ's Talent Scout and Promoter Extraordinaire
Haven't seen this before: Scott Dixon in tears.
The opportunity to see Scott racing a super saloon at Baypark, perhaps versus a 'murphy or two', had me salivating! I suspect quite a few thousand other would have been doing likewise given the chance that is not to be!

There might be another surprise yet in the promoter-go-round stakes if everything you hear is to be believed. One thing's for sure, until an official announcement is made everything else is only speculation as the "favoured" contender seems to change by the day......

Maybe the Club itself(BOP Speedway assoc.) is in the running. Sure has some very successful business people with the Speedway experience and skills to run the show, maybe not directly but appointing someone and with their backing and knowledge could certainlly bring the place back to lfe and put it back up where it used to be. Naming and catering rights could be a problem.

The BOP speedway assoc should of taken control of the promotion from the start ,when Boy BOB ,first built the place Appointed a Promoter with a salary plus incentives ,which they can still do ,but why heaven, only knows ,must be a written agreement from the circus of clowns that run the ratepayers broke Like many clubs etc ,,there is many of good folk .that sit on the fence sound off like turkeys ,make out they have millions ,but only have sixpence if that in the bank .

Thought this announcement was due by now? What's happening anyone in the know. Either going to be a breath of fresh air or a disaster for stock and saloon competitors.

With Competitors and Public all waiting for this announcement who ever gets it will just end up running a season with whatever resources are available from the previous year as time I would say has run out to organize any form of prime meetings to alure the punters in, the diehards will be there but with no championships apart from NI Midgets it would just be left to standards nights. Such a shame to see NZ's biggest and best Speedway venue suffering in this way.
