CEO Gary Dawson at Baypark (Bay Venues Ltd) indicated to me that the Directors would be confirming the promotion at their next meeting on the 27th (this Wednesday). However, some of what Gary has said of late has turned out to be totally incorrect so I guess, anytime is possible, anything is possible! Gary also confirmed that media statements saying that the BOPSA had legal rights to be a part of the process are totally incorrect. No such legal requirement exists.
Rumours still flying around, including a new one to me, with Bernie Gillon as hot favourite (Club President) and with his predecessor Roger Bailey as Clerk of Course!

I read an item earlier this week that Bernie had resigned and is no longer president of the BOPSA. This was to avoid conflict with the promotion bid. I assume the item was accurate as it was quoting Bernie.

Not just our government involved in dirty politics it seems. I have just heard the reason why one of the candidates for promoter at BP was turned down. and the information the board received is totally incorrect. Surely the decision should be made on facts and verified, and not hearsay given by another contender.

Just to clarify, Bernie has not resigned as President. We have our AGM on Wednesday and the Presidents position is one up for Re-election being the end of the 2 year term. As I'm on the BOPSA committee I know this as fact. I don't often like to get involved with keyboard racers but thought I'd just clarify. The schedule is done, thanks to Roger Bailey for sorting this before he left, things like this are all well under control. I like many, are just waiting on the promoter to be announced so all this information can be released and we can get ready to go racing, after all that's all we want to do. So many rumours flying around its easy to get sucked in, hopefully an announcement will be here soon and we can move forward.

I possibly misunderstood the quoted sentence. Stepping aside may not mean resigned. ' Bernie says he's stepped aside from his role in the association because he's involved with one of the contenders. Apologies, my intent was not to preach just to try to add some fact, after all there is 9 pages of speculation here, Bernie stepped aside from his role only in matters pertaining to the new promoter, he is still the president, and a bloody good one from my aspect.

I just want it sorted.
Not far from start of season. Last to put calendar out, has someone worked with neighbouring tracks?
Is this dirty politics, and another track/person looking after their own.
I would love a potential person/group etc promotor come on here and suggest how good this speedway could be.
We will see if people have their own or the speedway's interest at heart.

I would love a potential person/group etc promotor come on here and suggest how good this speedway could be. We will see if people have their own or the speedway's interest at heart. Exactly the discussion I had with Ron Dixon and he certainly got my heart pumping. No class bias, no conflicts of interest, no special treatment for noters, and huge wealth of knowledge and experience!
The possibility of the track prep starting for the next meeting after the last race on a Saturday night rather than a few hours before race start. The thought of Scott Dixon in a super saloon and the impact this would have on attracting 'new spectators to our sport'. Scott sponsoring and mentoring our youth ministocks, the Corporate Boxes buzzing and holiday periods at Mount Maunganui capitalized on! Alas, apparently Ron's Dixon's vision, ability and attributes are dwarfed by another ....

Likely by week end. BVL Directors meet today to basically sign off on the staff recommendation according to Gary Dawson. Makes you wonder why ratepayers pay $1/4 million for Directors if they are just rubber stampers!
Bay of Plenty Speedway Association AGM tonight might be when it is announced?
New class of racing for Baypark ....

Absolutely fantastic. The top steers and the bottom accelerates and brakes! Straight lining and anything goes. Obviously not in NZ!
Some amazing footage associated with that link!
