I'd bring my ctra car to race - even if it did get hammered by everyone and was broken by the end of race one.

Rally cross is coming, Was recently at Highlands Park and did the tour with Tony Quinn who mentioned that he was adding a rallycross track to the facility as several of the members had recently become interested in the toys now available for that type of thing.
If its part of X Games, then it only takes so long before others get on the 'whats cool and marketable' bandwagon. Ie- If Mad Mike does it here....over night we'll see a sub culture created with all those old wrxs and vr4s that are lurking around the place and are now too slow to drag/ circuit race

Is coming to a Speedway Arena When and where? Id be there with bells on. I follow some of the euro series and also the x games and there is only two classes of racing which i enjoy more. Stockcars and Superstocks. Have often wondered why they dont use a down the middle superstock for rallycross, sure would save money in body repairs

HI Guys,
We did Rallycross back around 1990-91. I was employed to do the P.A. on the two occasions it ran. Once at the Pukekohe race track (using the hairpin and grass areas down that end of the circuit). The second meeting was at the Wiri Quarry (What is now the electric train barn). It was run under MANZ supervision. I can tell you that despite extensive promotion it failed to muster very many paying spectators. I vividly remember the prize giving at Wiri. We just handed over the trophies and didn't bother with ceremony. The spectators, the few that turned up, had gone by then. In short it was a fizzer and the promoter (Simon Someoneorother) took a financial bath on the deal.

Rallycross will reappear - locally my sources suggest it is already growing out of drifting. I like the concept of a 2WD? "NZ Formula" potentially a lightly modified speedway saloon or super saloon would be interesting to watch. The existing drift cars would need a few tweaks but should swap over well enough. Not sure about the local 4WD ex rally cars - they lack the ability to enthuse the crowds. (turbos are dull sounding - just ask F1) The top Euro cars are worth a fortune and are very specialised, chances of getting a full grid of those things down to NZ is not great. Rallycross was originally conceived as a format for TV driven, forget the crowds (This is a winter sport) and promote through the net or TV. (And yes I have driven rally cross in NZ years ago)

THAT sounds like the fifth Friday night of every month at my place after I've managed to get a cask of wine cooler down Mrs Penman's neck!!

I believe Rallycross first arrived in UK when the powers-that-be banned Group B Rally cars, on the grounds they were becoming a dangerous beast. At least two top rally drivers were killed driving them and as they were on public roads between stages it was seen to be a real future of liabilities which could not be allowed to happen so the cars were moved onto purpose-built circuits where they were more able to deal with problems as they happened.
