Rebels and Rascals teams named. www.rotoruaspeedway.co.nzNice and early in the season - well done Rotorua club. Rebels - good depth, two tanks - Vallance an awesome addition, plenty of speed, Vazey an asset! The Rotorua Rebels vs Bay Park Busters rematch (draw willing) should be good at Palmy. I'm picking the Rebels to be more competitive this year should they meet the Busters again. In fact it would be good to put on an addition superstock teams match between the two fierce rivals pre-Palmy. How can we make that happen? Steinie?

There should be a Rebels versus Busters, home and away, each season.

2 months before the season starts seems a bit early to be picking teams to me but I guess it gives more time for them to start working as a team

Think we are fortunate to have 8 cars and drivers available to put their names forward for the Rebels! Bit of a luxury compared to past! Case in point - I'm pleased to see J Riedinger put his name forward, so he must be confident to be able to plan and prepare his superstock to be ready for Feb 15 teams at Palmy. All the best Jason for the year!

There are some great teams racers named and having that many from Rotorua put their hand up is great. Nick will be a huge asset to that team. Huge knowledge of teams racing and he knows what a bumper is used for. Hopefully he can get the tank hauling early! Lance in the other tank (both Rees) should form a great combination!

Starting line up should be those that show they are reliable and inform come teams racing time. Pretty harsh by not giving other drivers a chance to make the squad team before the season even starts!

Two tanks in the squad - have the Rebels ever had this luxury? Fifth driver Ashton.

Well by naming the team now puts them in the position of knowing who is in the team rather than waiting til half way through the season.Gives these guys time to get themselves sorted. Theres always plenty of drivers in form with their cars on the pace , but not interested in teams racing . Im picking that the Rebels team was picked from those guys who put their names forward and were keen to teams race , so why not pick the squad now and get things rolling...
How many other tracks wait to see who is in form before picking their team , not many im willing to bet . Most have a fair idea who will be teams racing and who the likely squad will be..
The early naming of the Rebels is proof that the Rotorua Club are well and truly organised , and not like a few other clubs who are still mucking around a week out from Palmy Teams trying to get a team together ...

The Rebels have a match against the Allstars fairly early in the season, makes sense to assemble the team based on experience/past performance to kick off with. Adjustments can be made as and when required.

Cant see the point in waiting til later , they will still pick the same team . Like I said the team would have been picked from the guys who wanted to teams race ...Just because some guys will show some some pace and top driving skills come opening , doesn't mean they want to be selected for teams racing.. As for the Rebels form in recent times , maybe they haven't been too successful but they have still gone reasonably well. Maybe you should look at a few of the other teams around NZ , Stratford , Wellington , Waikato , Christchurch , none of these teams have been that startling either . So don't knock the Rebels .. Is Beachboy the selector for the Panthers, appears to be with his wealth of knowledge .. lol
Totally agree there Gordon ..

everyone was asked if they wanted to race for the rebels and the names that came in are what we have . you carnt force people to do it as its a huge commitment time and money wise, so the names received are the ones that are keen to give it a crack for their club, fans, and sponsors . we always give it a crack and win or lose we all enjoy the atmosphere of the team events and not everyone can be the winners as we all know but we are out there giving it all on the track , even with 3 cars against the busters a couple of years ago lol. its is what it is and we will just keep plugging away .

Yep well said Steiny. Actually looking back at that race there was an interesting incident when the Rebels tank body got trashed deliberately by the opposition (Fraser?) I'm not a driver but I'd be interested in others opinion. Would you deliberately trash the body of an opponents car body that had come off? Yes/No Why?
