That's great news to be able to stay overnight again. We have stayed at most tracks around NZ.Cromwell and Rotorua have a small charge of $10, Rotorua have a shower and toilets available, not sure what facilities Cromwell provide as we have our own. We are more than happy to pay a fee for the privilege of being able to stay at the track,But,$100 is not going to be a fair price if only attending one Championship.

Well you can blame previous people for the charge, as some decided to renovate the place.

This way if I was only to stay 1 night of 1 championship which I often do (heading off after night 2 ) then it would cost $100 for a night.

Totally agree Trevor. We might need to put our heads together and workout an alternative parking. See you on the night

BIt of a shame allright - or is it? Its a tough one for clubs. Its a disincentive to park there for the hardcore fans who have been staying for free in some cases for year, which is probably targeted in reality at the drivers who have been the ones that caused all the trouble in the first place. Was it last year that Wellington Speedway suffered extensive damage from competitors who stayed the night in the pits? When its that recent you can see why the club can react in such a way. Perhaps the increased cost is to cover 24 hour security - makes staying there safer, and will hopefully prevent any further damage. Alternatively - if you can get it that cheap, and enjoy the racing to the extent you would attend practice, qualifying and racing for both events that 6 nights is pretty cheap. Might be an incentive to attend both events? Sometimes supersaloons can be a crash fest, but wellington speedway have a great track surface team who can keep drive in it, so the two lines all night should create a spectacle. ANd of course the ELF cup and BUrger King series have helped drivers lift to a higher/professional standard with less of the fibreglass crunching of yester year. From a club run track perspective I support this intiative. Its a tough financial climate out there, and I think this is a great way for the club to secure funds that are all so important in making events like this viable. THere might even be other supporters out there who have not stayed at tracks in the past who may now pursue this opportunity as they become aware of it. Good luck to Wellington speedway for this big season p.s still waiting for that Mod title Krusty! ) p.p.s when are we going to hear how Tony Macs brand new car for this season is going - or is that still a good rumour...

Obby , I don't think anyone is moaning about paying for the priviledge just the method being employed. The Palmy model has worked excellently.

Now I have to say that this is just a little disappointing, that the attitude is all about what your not allowed to do and what you must have if you wanna stay here...elitists...I cant afford a bus but I got a nice tent...just doesnt have its own water or waste pond...but hang on ...why do i need a toilet anyway..jeez arent there a whole stack of toilets at the track...gonna be some red faces and smelly people if there arent...why cant some of those toilets be used by campers...why such a negative welcome? if the place can handle thousands of spectators, suerely it can handel a few campers using facilities...hey why not make a carnival weekend out of it instead of laying down the rules...

If I was to drive my car to Wellington, book a Motel at that time of the year it would cost a lot more than $100 a night for accommodation. So $100 for the privilege of staying at the track isn't to bad. We'll be there in my motorhome for sure.

What about all the innocent people who had nothing to do with it. Question $100 bucks do all campers get free admission to the event?

On the surface, sounds like a good idea - bit steep mind. The way it reads, if you join the WSS for the Superstocks (for example)you can camp for free at the other two events for free as you will already be a member. Thus would be quite a deal if one was considering doing all three events, or just the finals nights of the Super Stocks and Super Saloons.

What do they say, you can please some of the people some of the time??
As you all know we have been burnt (literally) by this in the past, so the immediate response to that was to say we are not a camp ground, and its not for us to be taking money away from other local business. The other factor, which no one seems to realise, is that under the Camping Ground Regulations 1985 Act - if we take any money for camping, we need to be a registered camping ground - which we have no intention of becoming, as we need to comply with all regulations, including dump station facilities, etc, etc. Read the bit above, we are not a camp ground...
So, after much discussion we have decided to extend camping at major meetings as a benefit of an associated club membership, which has been set at $100. Two main reasons for this:
1) We KNOW who the people are who are staying over, and if there are any problems we have their details.
2) The money will be used to provide an overnight security guard, for the benefit of both campers and the Club.
Now there are 5 nights to the two NZ Champs, if you want to take full advantage of your associate membership, that is $20 per night. If you don't wish to take advantage of the offer, please feel free to take advantage of any of the actual camping grounds in the area.
A lot of time and effort has been put into this policy, and it won't be changing.
Looking forward to two great NZ Championships at the newly refurbished Wellington Family Speedway!

are there really going to be that many staying??.. ive only seen a handful of campers at any one time staying at the temarua track
and as I recall that included championships , most seem to enjoy the hospitability of the hutt park motor camp
but in saying that it would be a great place to camp and no doubt a friendly weka or 4 to play with

Since when did Stockcar tracks have to provide over night parking for camper vans? Go park on the side of the road somewhere if you feel the club is doing you a disservice. It's a stockcar track not a camping ground.

It's a stockcar track not a camping ground. They don't have to at all , it's a valued added service aimed at accommodating regular speedway followers and encouraging increased patronage/revenue.
