Was a huge hit alright! As far as the straightine rule goes it looked like a tricky call to make. From where I was sitting 29b punted him in just before the yellow marks on the wall began, then followed him in within the yellow zone.Is this a straightline ?
I did see Joe standing up in the pit area being checked over after hoping out of the ambulance. Not sure if any injuries were sustained.

I did hear joe is taking time out to mend and joe is also asking if anyone has any footage for speedway nz to investigate

Does the new rule make it all the more dangerous and lethal now because drivers will get half way down the straight and commit to the corner at full pace knowing the driver behind cant (well shouldn't) straight line you but decides to make a big as cheap shot and does it anyway only to receive something like the penalty mentioned above.

Very good point here, if there is a rule preventing straight lining then the drivers surely must have some degree of confidence they can go into the corner & not be concerned about being taken out by straight line. Exactly the same confidence you would have for not being taken out by a car whilst under red light, or being taken out by a car travelling in the wrong direction, or being taken out by someone clearly driving across the grass. You would not expect to be taken out in such ways, & therefore unless there is a good reason for it (driver unconscious etc.) then the offending driver has some explaining to do. I never saw the hit, nor was I at the track, but if as already mentioned the second hit occurred within the yellow, then if it looks like a duck, fly’s like a duck, quacks like a duck, then likely it will be a duck. The ‘no strait lining’ rule was brought in to prevent injury, with this being the second high profile suspected straight line, perhaps the message hasn’t got through, & maybe the written rule gives too much wriggle room for the offenders to get out, & perhaps the consequences aren’t big enough for the offender. I personally don’t think the yellow lines should be used in the rule, I’m more inclined to think words along the lines of the original proposal are closer to the mark with putting an emphasis on breaking free of the second hit where the victim is smashed against the concrete with the offender accelerating at the same time. I also think the offender should have a far greater consequence, as you would if you deliberately drove around the track the wrong way. Hopefully Joe isn’t long off the track. BL

I personaly think that SNZ have made a mess of this rite from the start..Each driver out there no,s the rule before they hop into their car each nite..The first case should have made a statement to ALL the drivers [no disrespect to the driver] As they didn't how can one affence get a $50 fine ,The next get 2 week suspension minimum..Complete joke I think.

Has anyone any footage or pictures of this incident?
There have been a number of different comments about what actually happened, from missing the yellow lines, but contact after, to it being definitely a straight line.
Must have been a photograpger in attendence, or someone videoing from somewhere?
And another quick question. Was this a brand new car, or the last tri rail modified to take a ford rather than a chev.
