Also the over zealous security guards that wouldn't let the crew check their cars after an incident. I can understand keeping general public away from the fence but when the drivers just need a thumbs up or down on their car is it really to big of an issue to let them have a quick look? Like I said all on all a good start looking forward to tomorrow night. serious question - Where does the issue of outside assistance come in? I know in stockcars/superstocks drivers have been threatened with loss of points at championships over hand signals from the other side of the fence. Would the same apply here.

Even if you ask anyone in the centre "are my tires alright?" will get you put out for outside assistance. Only two things are allowed, on a roll over the cage will get checked, and if after a fire has been put out you can continue.

Even so for a long time in any of the non contact classes drivers will be seen checking steering down the straight then looking for there crew in the crowd to get the thumbs up or down. Hell I've even seen them pull up to the pit corner and do steering tests right in front. On the point of outside assistance what was everyone's take on the infield track staff pulling the door off the 35N in group 2 second heat?
