There must be a lot of cars sitting in sheds that are not worth the hassel and cost to bring up to todays specs, yet would be ideal for whats being discussed in this thread. and would be good enough and cheap enough for begginers and intro level into the sport as it stands theres a stockcar running the number 97r on trademe at the moment but being from rotorua always at back of pack and car doesnt look competitive but would e ideal for the class where talking about

Just how many numbers would we actually see if this was to eventuate, how many half finished cars are there around the country in sheds?
I know for one this is a hell of a lot more achievable than the proposed f2 stockcars. Maybe it would bring all of the chassis out if the woodwork and up for sale if a so called b grade was setup

So standard stocks - stocks - superstocks? stocks as present? supers with a control tyre? Standards with a lower compression and no motor mods, 4x4 shocks, diff straight out of a vehicle , heavier weight etc?

Something like that tank11, pretty much standard engine no mods would make it so much cheaper!

ive said it before and ill say it again.CLAIMER RULES !!if something can be purchased for 5k(est)why would you spend 10k?stockcars and saloons are prime candidates,v8 crate motors can be brought cheaper than most stockcar 6's wheres the logic in that?motorsport in general will never be an even playing feild unless everyone has the same tools.the rules are always changing to suit those with deeper pockets not for the benfit of the class as a whole. also there would be less policing of rules as no one will build 20k engines if joe bloggs can purchase it on the night for 10k also if joe bloggs builds a winning engine for 5k and someone claims it for 10k all power to joe. how do we find the magic number ?simple find 3 engine builders get an average price for a rebuild(not full race package) plus cost of engine from wrecker add a carb and associated parts ,DONE it would allow a more "run what you brung" type senario but remember its always for sale at a set price. i see efi coming and its only going to give the people with more money more tools, good luck policing that!

I am all for finding a way to get Cars that are being unused back on the track. What we don't want to see is another separate class on race nights having their own race. If a ''B'' grade class {or whatever it was called} was started it needs to be on the track with the current Stockcar class so as not to erode the Spectator value even further with split fields.

Could only erode the class if they were both small. If you had 16 stocks and then 12-16 old(new came out of retirement) for standard stocks, they could be run separately. It is more about getting some of the old cars in sheds back out onto the track, rather than deleting cars there already.

Yep 2 reasonable sized fields would work seperately and as my post said I am all for getting unused cars back out there. What you don't want to see is a field of say 9 cars and one of perhaps 7. That is what I meant by eroding spectator value. If a track already has small numbers of Stockcars and they were able to entice 6 or 7 unused cars back on track with the new rules then it is a golden opportunity to run them all together as most of the Paying Public wouldn't give a darn if they were different spec cars.

So when the fields get bigger than the class can run, they split.

Maybe run the standards with a ribbon or something and just like with supers in a stockcar race, minimal/no contact with the standards?

Not talking about within each class Rhodesta but just like supers that race with stocks, so should stocks with standards. Otherwise if just standards or stocks(or supers), then it's all on.

I would say thats a good idea, difficult to practice though isnt it? Wouldn t it be easier if it was just all on anyway? no hassle for drivers thinking - "is that a limited, standard or super coming up behind me?.... can I hit it or should I stay out of it just in case?" I love seeing lower class cars take on the big guns - even more when they beat them at thier own game! I'd just say all on - if the big guns are good enough they will take care of themselves orstay out of the way etc.

They "TRY" not to tangle with stocks, may not happen all the time though. Can remember Marty picking me up on the back straight(he can't remember) one time but let me go just before the corner. Was my first year racing stocks. have seen Joe turn to avoid impact numerous times, actually makes supers into a slalom race. Hence why the standards would need to identify themselves, flag/ribbon/painted bumpers. No penalties unless deliberate contact (over aggressive?) down a class, tap and spin (ok). remember, this is to get some of the old iron/drivers back on the track at least cost to fill the grids.
