Just want to say well done to the panthers! Came out on top in the "pool of death" then proceeded to win the title against some very worthy opponents in the brawlers and the warriors. To be labelled by Gary Parkes as the best team he has ever managed speaks volumes. Not having the Rees factor meant little as they showed what an awesome team they are.

Agree Muncho, I would much rather another team win other than Palmy, but in this case they deserve the win.
Congrats Palmy. I thort Bengstons ride was game ova, but he drove off and got hit a few more times.

And any one of their four races over the weekend could very well have been a final in any other year. Well Done Lads

Just remember they did race with four cars all weekend. Although Andy did manage to stop a warm up which I've not seen before

Congrats to the panthers.... But is it just me or does Scott Miers get away with cutting pole lines to enable him to hit on the inside of a car cornering? On restarts is able to sneak a metre or 2 before lights actually go green! Without taking anything away from the panthers and it probably wouldn't have changed any results (hopefully) this is just my opinion and it was also noticed by a few others in the stands.

one might suggest the digs by miers and parkes prove that the rees mean little........... Some are assuming they were having a dig at the Rees duo, but that is not necessarily the case. They may just of giving genuine praise to the drivers that did such a great job. Maybe they are not as obsessed with Peter as others and looked at the drivers there on the night in making their comments.

( as you interpret) surely that is disrespectful to past members such as penn who have won multiple titles not just one.

In regards to a possible "Insult to Shane Penn, Shane was very much a member of the team that won, as it was clearly pointed out by Gary Parkes that Shane was part of the "Team" as an advisor and mentor. Not sure, but maybe Scotts coment was meant to answer all the critics who questioned the ability of the Panthers to win without the Rees boys, and Scott was just pointing out that the Team as raced over the weekend, has proven to be the "Best" even without the other two. Just another way of looking at it? Not necessaraly diging at the Rees boys, but getting at the general public who intimated that without the Rees boys, the Panthers were cannon fodder, and that they had the depth to overcome their absence.

Panthers are a great team , greater than many give credit for. If any other team around NZ lost two drivers the calibre of the Rees how would they perform..

I am not going to get into the tripe about the make up of the Panthers but will say that it was an absolutely awesome weekend to be part of the Panthers group and cannot thank Peter and Katrina Bengston enough for letting me tag along and help where I could. Also special mention to Vicki and Scott Miers for their amazing hospitality over the weekend. Watching all five drivers, their families and crews go about their business over the whole weekend was a very memorable experience for me. There were some pretty hairy moments for the team and a couple of times I thought it was all over rover but of course they never gave up. I am still trying to work out how The Ugly Duckling made it to the finish line in the final, let alone night one vs the Nelson Tigers (that was brutal), both Peter and Scott were pretty sore ( and cut up in Peter's case) after that one but Jack and Scott Joblin also made their mark before they were stopped one way or other. It is staggering the knowledge that these younger guys already have (I guess experience rubs off when you are surrounded by it aye). They both played huge rolls in the results although it was left pretty late in the race a couple of times (thanks for the anxiety attacks).
The added bonus was also getting to know a few of the Team GB guys a bit better with special mention to Guy Parker, Michael Scriven and his crew. It didn't quite go to plan for these guys but I'm sure you will see them back again.
One thing that I have taken away from this weekend is that you just ignore the absolute tripe and rubbish that gets spoken in public and broadcast over this medium and facebook. Dirty laundry (if you want to term it such) is not aired in public and it just becomes water off a duck back.
Congratulations to all the Panthers family and also thanks to Bruce, Puk and all their team for an absolutely dream weekend for me.
Cheers Ivan Smeaton (Smeats - Speedway & Things)

Congratulations to the Panthers for a fantastic weekend. They certainly gave all us died hard fans a few moment throughout the weekend.
An interesting point to note, which someone might be able to confirm, is this the first time that the Champions have beaten the teams who finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th during the weekend?

I think Peter Bengston is indestructible!! No matter how hard he gets hit he manages to keep going. I can't recall the guy ever retiring from a race. The quality of machinery goes a long way to complimenting such an awesome driver. Well deserved victory for the Panthers!!

I'm not sure if this has been covered in another thread but with regards to the Panthers what happens for the Auckland teams? Do they stick with the side on the weekend or do the Rees' come back in? Apologies if I've missed comments re this in another thread.
