A brilliant idea to acknowledge the greats of the sport by inducting them into a hall of fame. The presentation was made in the clubrooms after the racing.
Inducted were Eddie Hawkins Dave Evans Tony Mclanachan Brendon Higgins Barry Podjursky Shane Penn
Was great to see these greats recognised and for this hall of fame to be introduced

That lap for Shane Penn on the back of the silver bullet was also a great sight to see.

Congrats to all those inducted. Would like to see a few more names of the past inducted too. Kevin Free, Barry Hunter, Barry Featherston. Also, some of that legendary Scappers team of the 80s Simpson Brothers, Mercer, Tibbett.

If he did have a few starts I can't think what he would have done to get in the HOF. As always tho happy to be corrected.

I don't think Barry Featherstone was racing by the time the teams champs started. If he was, it would have been short lived.

He lost the NZ Champs in a run-off to Keith Turner in the 1979-80 season (his third near-miss), and the Teams Champs started in 1981. I'd agree with Barry B and Ramjam here.

From (fading) memory, and I know I wrote a story on it last millennium, Feathers got a 3rd followed by three second placed finishes in the 4 NZ titles he contested before moving to Australia. And I think two of those "misses" were lost run-offs. But that was in 1975/76, 1976/77, 1977/78 and 1978/79. I suspect he was not living in NZ by the time the Teams Champs was created.

why could the pesentation been done as part of the pre event on Saturday, it was great to see Shane Penn honoured but so should the other inductees, some people in the crowd would feel a little cheated that it has been done after the meeting almost in secret.

Time constraints perhaps?? Everyone is welcome to the clubrooms afterwards. They did have after party's until number dwindled and probably some other things

I think I agree with you about this, I'm sure most fans would have liked the chance to see and applaud past heroes.

mmmm tricky one this i guess. Remember this was being run by the Palmy club not the promotion and at Palmy they are 2 seperate groups. like I mean compleatly seperate, whis is diffo to most tracks. With pre sales would it have been held infront of a 3/4 empty stadium, which would have made photo's ;ook a bit w@nk maybe?? The other side is I guess the club wanted to get a few ppl in the clubrooms given that the BIG teams champs party that they used to run after night 2 is no no longer. A few reminders over the PA thru the night could have helped.

Wouldn't it have been easier doing it when they were all there?. Who's to say they would all be attending next year or even in the country.

Awesome Bruce, thats a great plan. For at least half of them they have cars connected with them still around, either as historics or classics or whatever they are called or still racing. Be great to see them with those cars.
