I am guessing that we will have a series of Qualifying heats and then a series of Finals heats. Could be a long night Anthony

The official entry form contains the horror www.speedway.co.nz/asp/archive.aspI have no idea how they are going to make this work. It looks like a driver may have to race 7 times on the night! 2 x qualifying heats 1 x repechage 3 x finals heats 1 x run-off Surely this event should be formatted with a bit of common sense. 2 Groups, marble draw and reverse grid heats, B-Main/Pole Shuffle, A-Main. It's not rocket science. At the NZ Mods the repechage guys were required to race 5 times on finals night and that meeting finished at 11:40pm. What time will this meeting finish? How long until Onehunga residents have had enough and form an action group to combat late night speedway noise? How are families supposed to attend this so called family sport when meetings finish near on midnight? A fantastic field has been assembled for this event but the format is going to make for a long drawn out affair and that's assuming there will be no protests! Thank goodness I will be in Rotorua where they actually think about the best way of running their show. In fact I might be able to drive back from Rotorua to Waikaraka in time to catch the 3rd heat!

The format which I've been given is
1 x qualifying heat for each group to find the top seven from each 1 x repechage for the remaining 6 spots
The top 20 cars to race over 3 heats to find the Valvoline North Island Super Saloon Champion.

The format which I've been given is 1 x qualifying heat for each group Surely not, cant see how that will work.. how do they sort the grid draws? if you have a back grid you are seriously disadvantaged... With 27 cars for a 1 night show you have to ditch the 3 heat format its that simple. needs to be 2 groups 2 heats each (front & back grid) maybe a repercharge to find 20 cars for a one race 20 lap final.

3 heats each group and 3 heats finals total 9 races and have 2 support classes 15 races or even 3 support classes 18 races

Correct me if I am wrong but up until about 1 week ago there were less than 20 cars entered? On entry form it says entry cut off date was Feb 15th? How many were entered by that date? 27?? I doubt it!
Bloody hard for a promoter to arrange a format and support classes etc without knowing how many cars are going to enter and how many races he needs to allow for.
2 ways to handle it IMHO. Stick hard and fast to the entry cut off date and only those that enter on time get to run, no exceptions or do what they are doing by accepting all late entries and trying to put something together that will work in a one night show.
The guys who did enter on time can rightly be annoyed if they miss out on qualifying because their one heat start is from the rear because they have no luck pulling a marble.
Maybe another way to do it is all the guys who entered on time are automatically into the finals and the rest who entered late can have a one race deal to find the remaining cars to make up the field. At least this way the guys who were organised and got their entry's in on time are not the losers! Might encourage guys to get their S#it together next time!!

I'd say it's a mistake and should read 2 heats each group then a 3 race final. Codi is checking it out with Bruce.

I'm with Porry.
I love spectating at motorsport, and if I pay to get in, start watching at 7pm until 9.30 pm I'm happy, but if the event goes past 10, 11 or whatever, I'm even happier.
Judging by some of these contributors, they seem to want to go home virtually once the race meet gets underway.
Not a fan of this "arms folded, can't do attitude"
Hooncorp.

I agree to a point hooncorp, but a 5 hour show isn't offering better value for money or offering more action than a 3 hour show if the extra 2 hours are spent fart arsing around and trying to sort things out. Also, when a track calls their speedway a "family speedway" this insinuates to me that it's families they are trying to attract and appeal to, and therefore it's going to finish at a relatively family friendly time. People can always leave early, obviously, but to attract them to a certain advertised event then have them leave before that event is determined can be detrimental to attracting them back again as well. Us addicts can handle what you're suggesting, but it's the casual fan's attendance that is going to make the difference at most events whether any club loses money, breaks even or makes a profit (i.e; we hardly ever see the house full signs out). Get them to "casually" turn up more often, and more nights may register in the black. Sometimes it's the tracks with a curfew that have the advantage. Barry B

Barry you are completely correct. you will never get much of a crowd if you are depending on just speedway fans. It is peple like us that drag along friends and family that bring the crowds. Waikaraka is always at least 25 minutes late dropping the green flag. If racng starts at 7.00 hen it should start then. Unfortunatly to ofen the tag along people we bring dont get value for moneyand nexttimeweare looking for people to takewith us they dont want to go again. Bring back the clowns for the kids . Many people alsodont want a extra long nite sitting ithe cold just because others start late and cant get theeeir act together.

do you know what format it is being changed to? If all competitors and Officials agree we will run a 25 lap, one race, Valvoline North Island Super Saloon Championship. FORMAT All competitors have been split into two groups - yet to be finalised because of withdrawals. All competitors do 2 Elimination Heats - grids Draw and Reverse. First 8 from each group into the final. Repercharge for the remaining Super Saloons, the first four from the repercharge will take grids 17 to 20 in the 25 Lap North Island Championship Race. If a tie on points the grid position will be decided by the toss of a coin as per the Rule Book. Subject to Time - The top three points scorers from each group (Six Cars) will go into a pole shuffle / shoot out. This will give the top six their grid positions for the Championship race. Winner of Pole Shuffle has choice of Grid 1 or Grid 2.
