I just thought it should be noted - 10 titles to Scott Miers, some great teams have yet to win the title, other than the Panthers no team let alone person has won 10. This to me is huge achievement and Scott features in many of my favourite team champs memories. It will be a big effort for this record to be broken and i personally hope this isn't the last time i see the 8P tank at the Team champs

Despite all the mud slinging i thought he drove particularly well this teams champs as far as looking after his team mates when required. Also with the other hitter not in the team he did the deed.

After the 248's I went to Palmy determined not to support the Panthers missing two of my favourite drivers. After the first night my choices were a little limited in terms of teams to support so I figurd best just enjoy myself and the spectacle. Some time during the semi finals I started to realise that there was actully something special about this new Panthers team and maybe, just maybe, they deserved my respect and even, support. With Biggsy next to me backing the warriors I secretly entered the final hoping that he would be disappointed but just not quite ready to support the panthers.
Maybe it was the local water, maybe the disappointment of the spicey sausages running out, the deflated chub suit or even the early 4 on 3 that developed but I found myself hoping that maybe I was due to see something special and so it happened. Pete Bengston and Scott Miers showed why the Panthers have been at the top so long, the team to beat, the team to hate because simply put, they drove excellently in the final.
Did he attack off the grass? Counldn't tell from where I was sitting.
Did he jump the start? Yes and had he won the race, then I suspect Referees may have taken action but after last year I did not want to see drivers taken off like that as it really ruined the spectacle. I supect Scott knew this and drove to make sure that he won it for his team in such a way that the referees could not change the outcome.Jack blocked the leading warrior, Pete took the flag. Scott made it happen.
Top sports people push rules and accept consequences when it goes wrong, Richie in the break down, Van Persie on the offside line, Malinga and his bowling action, Steven Adams in the rough and tumble under the net. They get ahead because they are playing at the edge of the limits.
Tall poppy suyndrom is a New Zealand problem and rears its ugly head on this board too often. Scott Miers gained my respect not lost it this weekend and I am not afraid to say it. Didn't like the comment in his speech but see where it came from in the heat of the moment but can still say he raced excellently and probably more deserved the Spike Richarson trophy for the way he raced all weekend.

Well done on constructing one of the best posts this board has seen in a long time. Such well thought out posts are what made this discussion board so great in the first place, and are a welcome respite from the constant slagging off of people. It also great to see praise heaped on someone who is worthy based on their deeds, rather than based on a very biased viewpoint.

To be part of teams that have won this title on 10 occasions is nothing short of legendary. MikeyB is correct in saying that NZ sports fans and media have a real problem in not celebrating people that achieve greatness in our sports..we all want to knock them down a peg. What Scott does for teams racing in general is awesome..and im picking it will take someone very special to achieve more than 10 titles. Lets be honest if you were a selector he would be hard to look past as one of your first picks..with a very experienced head on him hes nothing short of a blocking nuisance that rarely gets stopped. Congrats Scotty and we hope to see you keep going raising the bar even further.

Watching Scott in action on and off the track this weekend was nothing but inspiring. Remember that young Peter Bengston is only one win behind Scott so he has a chance of equalling or more if Scott retires 1st.

Scott has given us so many reasons to respect him on the track for so many years, but has given just as many reasons to deserve respect off the track for his generosity and open handed kindness. He truly epitomises what the all round Speedway great.

I thought it was one of the better performances from Miers that I have seen in recent years. Not huge roll over hits but fantastic blocking that kept multiple cars at bay and he still knows how to read a race well. A+.
