Another issue with the tarps is that people lay them right across the walking path on the terraces . If you have a spot to sit in the middle its like an obstacle course to try get out if need be .The filthy looks and bad comments from some of these tarp owners gets the blood boiling a bit .... It sounds like you havent had a good look at yourself in the mirror lately (pitbull)

I am one of the people who put blankets out in advance to "reserve a seat". We race a car and have a family who likes to watch the meeting outside of the "pits". It is hard to bring up your young family hours in advance while your car gets scrutineerd and gear checked and go to drivers briefing etc and leave them around your car. If you have a problem with this, ask yourself how many meetings have you been to in Rotorua and the last ten years? Even when our car hasn't raced, we have supported the RSCC 100% of the time. I understand your comments, but see where I am coming from before criticising "us"

I understand your comments, but see where I am coming from before criticising "us" I have not a lot of problem with the pit crews/drivers families, AS long as they use the area and not excess blanket to bum ratio. So often you see these blankets out for 3/4 of the races and 2 or 3 people sitting on them. When someone comes up, they are told "taken my family/people are in the pits"

I understand your comments, but see where I am coming from before criticising "us" I'm also one who has supported Rotorua for more years than I care to remember. Lot's of people have and still do. I don't have a problem with people reserving their seats early in the piece, don't see much difference to reserving them in person or on line. On the 'big' nights I see spaces covered in tarps that 10 people could sit on but only 5 or 6 actually do. I also know exactly what the people are groaning about on the terraces with people on chairs perching on the edges blocking the view of those on the built in seats. We have a great disability parking area but unless we are there very early people lay their tarps out right about the only place we can access to sit. To be fair those walking up to that turn 1 banking from the pits may not even realise what top of that area is used for. Some of the disabled are not able to get on site too early in the day nor have the ability to walk to elsewhere in the venue to sit. Really I think we all should all be a bit more reasonable with the space we take up and be more considerate to those around us when large crowds are expected. And don't pinch my spot!!!

I did not realise it was possible to deny other patrons of their chance of getting their choice of seating by laying out tarps before 3pm. I had always assumed that in most cases one person was heading up to the track around gate opening time, buying a ticket, and allowing his/her family or mates the luxury of arriving at the track at race start time. Or worse, one person goes to the track at opening time, buys a ticket, lays out tarps to deny others that arrive later, then heads home - returning later. I've been a fool to take the whole family up 90 minutes prior to race start hoping for some seating choice, only to have to sit in what I can find and put up with the kids moaning about being bored and wanting to leave before the meeting finishes because they have had to be there so long. I've got a good idea, can one of the people that currently pops up to the track before 3 please lay a tarp out for me too, so I don't have to be considerate of anyone else either? Perhaps we can have a system where anyone from out of town can post on macgors requesting a tarp lay? So they are not unfairly disadvantaged and will continue to be happy to travel to Rotorua. Something they may do less of if they have to leave home 4 hours earlier than normal to reserve a seat.

Love your post midway but you're taking a risk doing that in a place like Rotorua lol. Honestly though how do you police all this crap?? To give others an example, I'm an out of towner who loves going to Rotorua. I don't take a deck chair and just turn up early to get a wooden seat. Last year I was at the 240s and sat on a wooden seat. A family rocked up next to me later on and instead of sitting next to me on the wooden seat (plenty of room) they got out their deck chairs and propped them up against the wooden seat completely blocking my view to turn 3. Honestly I was flabbergasted at the nerve of some people. Words were had but seriously are people that inconsiderate? We are all here for the same thing. The enjoyment of some great racing.

To be Honest I have watched some of these people over the years on turn 2 come in put there tarp down ,go out the gate hop in there car and drive off again no kidding, But really there is enough room even at 5.30 if you turn up at 6,30 and on you can always sit in the back of Macgors ride the boot is always up with clearly seating for 2

New rule: from 6pm any vacant tarps may be folded up and binned and the space can be used by those wanting it. Also cant find any info which says campers paying the $10 camping fee have the right to place chairs and rugs earlier during the day before the gate is locked at 3pm as mentioned on page 1. But that's campervaners for ya, give them an inch they will take a mile.

Easy for you to say Beachboy- Its all right in Nelson if there is no room on the banks.... there is plenty of room in the trophy cabinets for people to sit

I seem to remember an NZ champs last year at meanee and if people turned up late with deck chairs and sat in front they would told by many to go forth and multiply but anyone who wanted a pew for their bum were welcomed and space made around turns 1 and 2. I'm sure that as long as everyone uses there top two inches on Friday and Saturday being that we are all speedway fans we can all fit in and have a good view and an awesome time
