Couldnt DQ the entire G team... Rees would have "personal issues" and need to get the sign writers out to change the letter on the cars again.... How could you justify punishing the entire team for one car being overweight? Agree with you Barry, why dont the cars get weighed before going onto the track, perhaps while they are on the dummy grid

I agree it would be better to weigh them before but how much time before the race. it sometimes takes a while to get strapped into the car and be comfortable, the last thing you then want as a driver is to be heading for the dummy grid get pulled over for weighing then having to get out of the car to then have to go through putting all of your safety equipment back on and re strap into the car. By the time that has happened the race will be half over. Also which cars do you weigh, the has been no result so it would have to be 1 from each time so that will double the time. The theory is good but I don't think it would work in reality.

Weighing after the race pretty much limits officials to cars that can drive on the scales too, so there's no perfect solution. Barry B

If CHCH were DQ for taking out the leader from below the pole line, then why was welly not DQ for taking out the lead GM car from the grass in race 1 on Fiday night there for welly should have not even qualified. Double standed by the welly team i think.

To be fair, there was a LOT more leniency given on Friday night due to the conditions. Drivers knew from drivers briefing they were going to get that, just as they knew on Saturday night they weren't. All this was relayed to fans over the PA

Winning team had an overweight car, should have had consequences which put them out of the competition as which happened to Bay Park last season. The Rules and penalties need to be looked at, I wonder what Pete thinks about wining a teams championship with an illegal car in his team. What happened to Baypark last year was that their overweight car won the race thus when excluded meant the team hadn't won. 8g wasn't massively overweight(10kg) but overweight is overweight. If the weighing was done before the race then we wouldn't be having this drama. dont want to piss on anyones boots here but would'nt most cars gain weight with track clay / mud ect? an would the driver & crew have the time to scrap off most of it in front of a rep/ref ect before loading up on the scales?

There was nothing unfair about the Gisborne Teams penalty . He was found to be overweight and was excluded from the race which never changed the results as he wasn't the race winner .. I feel the refs were more inconsistent with pinging drivers for cutting the pole line where some were dealt to rather harshly and others were let go scott free . As for the comment of Peter Rees being happy knowing they won with an illegal car The car went through scrutineering at the Lakefront and was deemed legal weight .. Is it Peter Rees job to ensure all cars in the team are legal NO , I would say Rees have enough to contend with having three race cars of their own. Too much sour grapes and sore losers and mostly coming from local Rotorua supporters . Gisborne were the best team all weekend and certainly stood out from the rest . To win the final with three cars [ after Peter Rees was taken off ] was one mean feat and any other team would have struggled to pull it off . The title deservedly went to Gisborne who won it fair and square . Looking at their cars after the final , they were still as straight as they were before the event on Friday ..

Agree with you chevute, sometimes just walking across the track and it feels like youv've picked up a kg of mud on your boots!

I had heard a rumour that when 8g was weighed he was 10kg over so he went away and cleaned the mud off and when re weighed it was 12kg over. Is this true??
Just another thing I was a little disappointed with Paul hickeys commentary last night. I know he's a strong rotorua supporter but as a commentator to complain and moan about rotorua being hard done by etc the when they pack a sad it like it's not much has happened. To a newbie going to speedway it would seem a little strange for the commentator to act this way. Not having a go cause paul is a good voice to hear thru the P.a but maybe just being really passionate at that time

You don't think they would lose a bit of fuel and prob water from the time they go out till the time they return to scale? On slightly the same topic, I think cars should be weighed WITH the driver in the car. A car is supposed to be weighed "ready to race". I have never seen a car ready to race with the driver sanding beside it. Doing it that weigh way tracks could have permanent scales set into or near the dummy grid. EDIT: I'm a victim of NPS (next page syndrome). This reply was to gray40 and the poster he was quoting

why not weigh the car alone then as the driver is removing it from the scales note the weight including them write it on a piece of white tape and stick it to the dash. that way when they can run ya over the scales belted in check what the scales say compare it to the sticker on the dash which is signed by the scrutineer so noone can tamper with it, if their within a few kgs of mud and lost fuel their all good and allowed onto the race track?

No prob, I'll do that when you show me the video of your car racing with no driver LOL. Seriously tho the band range might need expanding from 100 kgs tolerance to say 1450 - 1600 kgs with 150 kg tolerance

One solution to the weight issue is weigh the drivers themselves (in their race boots, suits, gloves and helmet etc) before the meeting, then as they head on to the track to race have them go over the scales and deduct the drivers weight from the total weight. No mud, water or fuel can then be used as an excuse for being over/under weight.

After been weighed on the scales forward ,turn around and enter the opposite way ,i could almost bet there is a difference of least 40kgs per axle and insure that black dot is in the centre as many times it aint aye Mr Tyson

The car (8g) was allowed to back off and mud removed. The car weighed in at 108kg, then flickered to 110, the heaviest is taken. At the lake front it was 1478-1480, I think Bruce said. The scales were reading approx (just under) 2kg when he backed of.
The only thing he changed, was a clutch after the first night(well I hope he did because it sure didn't smell nice on the trailer)
Holes in the chassis can gain water when washing cars down and a litre weighs a kg. Mud in the crevasses would still be there. Bruce is pissed but knows he copped it.

i feel this is the saddest thing of our sport to many dickheads that know it all dont race or spnd the money to compete but stir nuts on these boards mainly pit crews and hangers on i believe bruces car was legal at scrutineering and for a man of this calibre to leave scrutineering and make changes to be illegal dosent make sense for someone to make the milestone of 100 teams races is a legend well done gisborne .no talk of other cars that weighed diff to scrutineering or was there none not from what i hear there was a few so please put all facts in board dont keep picking on the winners cause it suits your own agenda

Also he may have easily been 20kg-25kg over at the start of the race with the car fueled up which makes it even worse.
