Hi team,
It's Harry Fredrickson Memorial Stockcar Gold Cup time again. This year much of the prizemoney has been put up by StM from Maori Made Productions, who can't even be there himself, so the rest of us get to spend it for him. How? Well there's $1700 all up, but he's put up $500 solely for the best stirrer of the night, and a group of spotters will be put together to decide just how that $500 is spent. That's serious coin available to all, not only those with a quick car. It'll be hard fought too, with 43 Stockcar drivers entered so far.
Hopefully that number will climb to 45, as that's how many cars they'd like to run.
Split into two groups? No way. The plan is to run all 45 Stockcars together!!
Marble draw for Heat 1, reverse grid for Heat 2, highest points to the front for the Final. This would have to be the biggest field of Stockcars seen on track at one time, anywhere, for a fair while I suspect.
I think Palmy may have done 42 before, BP into the 40's in it's eary days perhaps, but 45 may be the biggest ever? (When BP ran the NZ Champs there, and later the GP, they raced 36 cars, so 45 is 25% bigger than that). It's gonna get busy.........
Let's do it on the terracotta,
Barry B

Yea Barry waiting on one to confirm in the morning which would make 45, Im not sure whether to be excited or nervous.....A few other sponsors have also come on board, Robertsons Menswear with a commemorative jacket, Bayspeed, Evolve Building and Flamecrusher. So the prize pool is getting up there, also Bernie has set a rain out day for Sunday with racing starting at 2.30 if the unmentionable was to happen, fingers crossed.

Looks like one way or another Baypark is to set not one, but TWO FIRSTS! I can't recall a Sunday afternoon ever been utilised.
I had thought we'd take to the water of Lake Tarawera this weekend BUT it looks like Baypark it is, Saturday OR Sunday ...

The list on the notice board is now correct, were stuck at 43, I had a couple become "maybes" before i got to add them so heres hoping, 44 or even 48 would be ideal for 11 or 12 rows of even numbers, either way its going to be a laugh, hope my grid draw is favourable....

In the event of a 'rainout' with Sunday racing we need to encourage folk / competitors to stay over. I note a few Gizzy entries. Don't go home, don't pay for a motel, 'PM me'.

Saturday has arrived in Tauranga and we have woken to no wind, a 60/40 mix of light and darker cloud and blue sky. Less positive weather approaching from the north west. Feeling positive but .... !

No rain at Baypark, all around it, BUT not over it, AMAZING! 36 or so stock cars showed their faces. No water either apparently ...
... and the winner is (copied from BOPSA site)

Looking at the pics what has happened to the Rugby ground in the middle as i thought it was one of the main playing grounds now for BOP Rugby and another use for the stadium.
