I certainly hope many clubs and Promoters take a good look at this for the next season of racing in this sport . One of the worst payouts of milk solids from food giant Fonterra in years ,which has such a flow on effect to many country clubs ,as well in the forestry sector stockpiles of unsold timber litter the ports ,It may not hit home yet ,but around the corner Bums on seats are important to those who wish to survive .

Really, when they were making thousands of dollars a week they didnt offer to drop the price of milk. At $7/hour for 3 hours of entertainment its only 6 litres of milk for the rest of us

I can see it now. Adults 20.00 , students 15.00 ,children under 15 10.00 , dairy farmers (if accompanied by an adult) 5.00 or a couple of litres of milk

This is an interesting topic and I hope it's one that doesn't get sidetracked. According to the Waikaraka Park website fans can expect price increases this year. www.waikarakafamilyspeedway.co.nz/tickets.htm $25 for Adults and $60 for a family. I will add that when this was brought up on their Facebook page the response was that prices weren't yet decided for the upcoming season. Somewhat strange then that they would have these prices clearly displayed on their website. Personally I don't see many $25 meetings in the Waikaraka calendar and I suggest if they proceed with these charges then crowds will be down, especially when 45 minutes down the road Huntly are charging $15 a night for a similar quality show. My feeling is that $20 an Adult is an appropriate price for your standard Saturday Night show. I don't think any track, including Western Springs and Palmerston North, puts on a show that consistently provides superior value to a $20 entry fee. For some of our smaller tracks $15 would be a more appropriate charge for a standard show. I also feel that we underprice some of our novelty shows. Fireworks are also a crowd puller at Guy Fawkes time. These once a season fans have greater price elasticity than weekly fans and tracks should be charging $25-$30 and adult for these shows. Likewise Demolition Derbies also attract a different audience and likewise we should be charging $25-$30 for these shows.

Having read similar threads in the past, I feel a few pick and choose which meetings they attend already - think it may be more previlent this coming season.I know my belt will be getting tighter, so it'll just be the bigger meetings this year.
Agree with Percy, it may be time for tracks to adjust pricing to reflect the main attraction/s of individual meetings. I know some clubs do already, but club nights, demo derbies, etc at some ttacks are different prices.

Anything more than $20 for a normal night is just ridiculous. $25-30 for the big championship meeting seems ok. And well teams I don't mind paying $40 and an extra $10 for a reserved seat

$25 for a nothing special night wont fill the stands. To be totally honest i would pay $60.00 for a major meeting but on a nothing special night i wont even go for $20.00 but that just my opinion.

if other tracks are worth 20.00 then Palmy is easily worth the extra five bucks with superior seating, grandstand, toilet facilites and large fields. dont forget the big screen as well - how many others have that ? yes it is a council facility but that reflects the lease cost to the promoter and hence the price to the punters. this topic comes up every year eh

Woodford Glen has increased the adult entry this season to $20 per adult. That's fine, BUT in saying that, last season out of 8 grades registered, most nights only had 5 grades racing. Personally I do find that annoying as that is not value for money. Just my opinion.
Cheers

That's 5 maybe 6 classes, any more tends to be an overkill. On nights like Derby and fireworks 5 classes + the crackers or derby is plenty. Should be against the law to run any more.

The cost of the average person to a speedway event is rather small if this person only attends say one or two meetings a year .As prices increase across the board however to a average family who likes the speedway sport every Saturday night ,juggling the family budget can be a strain on many low income families ,so student passes like pensioner ones ,as well as a attendance card maybe that may,say after five or so meetings a reduction in charge on adult prices . How often do you hear ,"Gosh the crowd was small to night ,i thought there maybe a few more " a little less often brings a little more .
After hearing about Baypark and the Springs Sprintcar meetings this season ,it will be interesting to see how crowd attendances improve ,the diehards will go ,but will the rest on average just flag it away, travel costs, are expensive or some one may think of a bus perhaps .,its a good way to go like in the old days ,. Bums on seats is like taking my cattle to the local sale you get a good price and the freight charges are much lower ,which in question has amazed me of why hasnt the Springs and Wacky Park done more shows together than just the John Webster meeting ..

i like the idea of some sort of loyalty card. if SNZ could get together with a ticket agency and have that shared among all tracks then those that travel to a number of tracks would certainly benefit from being a regular petrolhead rather than a Fireworks night supporter. There are other sports that have seasons passes so why not speedway ?

There are other sports that have seasons passes so why not speedway ? Going to a ticket agency would be a bad move and would encourage price increases as the agency will take between $3-7 a ticket. I'm sure there are other options for season passes.

Instead of a loyalty card we show our club membership card. That would encourage people to join their local club as a social member and get discounts when we travel.

But then we would hear " the gate price at the P is high because of the The Ticket Agency, the council, the loyalty card and last but not least the person selling the beer. All of which the poor promoter has no control over"

Beach boy ,have you ever thought why large scale food chains ,discount food prices as a example ,they try anything possible to get the family people through there doors with discount bargains . Like dangling the carrot in front of the donkey :)Perhaps clubs and promoters need more of a incentive to encourage people through the gate than just relying on the old saying "hope for the best "..

There are other sports that have seasons passes so why not speedway ? I would think most tracks run a season pass, Gisborne does and you save 2 meetings by buying it at the start of the season.
