Thoughts on how long these big winged machines have left? It seems as though numbers at each track are dying each year.

I track the number of Modifieds racing each season. While the number of registered cars jumps around quite a bit, the number of cars that actually hit the track is remarkably consistent.
This season Greymouth has more Modifieds than at any point over the last decade. While Christchurch continues a good trajectory. Auckland, Huntly, Rotorua, Wellington and Blenheim are on par with a smoothed out average of the last 5 years. Stratford, like last year, is a bit lower than where you would expect numbers to be historically but it is all swings and round abouts.

If it is of interest to anyone, the following are the cars that have made it to a meeting or practice so far. The total is 23, over the whole season just over 50 cars normally make an appearance.
NI: 2NZA, 4W, 8W, 15W, 26S, 37H, 52A, 57W, 97H SI: 1NZC, 9C, 10C, 22C, 24C, 32GM, 46GM, 48GM, 54GM, 69C, 71C, 72E, 88C, 89C

Do the Mod's have a series like the BK Super Saloon's?. It would be great to get them back to Meeanee for a skid. I remember back in the 80's we actually had them as a class for a short time.

From a spectator point of view a full field of 24 or so modifieds makes a awesome night of racing long live modifieds. Question do we really need 6 shooters?

Modifieds are very strong in chch and always have i rember they were big in Nelson back in the 80s 90s now they have sprintcars there. Do we need six shooters yes i think we do buy a good sprintcar chaise start of in six shooter's then change engine. I do think the modifieds need some type of series both north and south islands as we have now good sprint car series in both ialands

OK next question . Should a track that races Modifieds also race 6 shooters or should that be exclusively for tracks that race Sprintcars? Possibly tracks that race Modifieds should have a limited Modified class racing a 350 crate engine. Leaving 6 shooters to Sprintcar tracks.

Having a limted modified class would that not weaken the modified class. On six shooters why not open it up a bit and have any v6 engine. Must say some of the modifieds down here in chch look pretty sharp

I think that numbers are on the rise in Wellington again. 4W is a brand new Raceworks, there are four of our regulars on the way with rumours of another couple. One of last seasons Saloon drivers evidently has a Mod in his shed and someone else in his Saloon so I would assume he plans to get it on track.
I know it is too early to say definitely, but it would seem this season will be a good one numbers wise.

"It seems" Perhaps you should provide some more details on where it seems to be dieing. Greymouth had four at opening meeting with definitely 1 to come and possibly 1 more. Biggest numbers in 10!years. Woodford glen have biggest registered driver list in years

This topic pops up every year at least. Those who have the actual stats conclude that the class has not lost numbers for some time in fact often grows some seasons.

There was 1 from greymouth at the glen tonight and 12 of the 15 registered to the glen were there aswell. Sounds like there are at least 19 in the South Island.

its pretty harsh to say numbers are in decline in october. when january is still two months away. one class that is in decline in the north is streetstocks. but thats another matter entirely.
