Hi my name is Christine and I am Phil's wife (48m Saloon) We are both petro heads from way back, used to go to Western Springs and Waikaraka park with my Dad and brothers as a teenager. I have raced go karts and used to race in the Corvette back when Mercury Bay (Whitianga) track was in full swing. Have also had a go in a streetstock and a modified. I don't feel the need for speed so much now that I am getting (dare I say it) older! I'm 49. I still love speedway in all shapes and forms Hang in there Zach, I too have had cancer with Chemo and radiation and am now 2 years in remission YaY!!!!!.

MadMarty aka Marty or Martyka Brandt raced saloons and stockcars since 1970 something born in kurow in the mainland moved to chch when 5 years old. Brought up in Cashmere,Highest IQ in the southisland at 13 years old got my sc,then for some reason threw it all away and joined the Mongrel Mob for many years, retired before I ended up dead and also got caught up in the politics of it all, though i have come back from the dead many times, started realising there were people around me and turned myself inside out, last 16 years have been a solo father, foster parent, after closing my Sign writing business, currently race Superstock 13K though living in Napier, been a proud member of the Otago Cougars,Auckland Allstars,Bounty Hunters and now KihiKihi Kings where I want to stay put.Long time coloumist for the NZDTR Magazine, been having a break from that the last few months as seem to keep covering the same old ground but will get back to contributing soon.Used to compile the Stockcar rankings, which may kick off again soon.Respect all classes in Speedway and all drivers,I am very approachable so always feel welcome to have a chat weather it be on the net or at a track where I am.Very Passionate about teams racing it is the creme de ville of the Stockcar class.Always have plenty to say on here havent always been able to back up my words but I cant get worse only better not afraid of anyone or anything but also dont like to see people get hurt, and despise things that are wrong. This is a great community and even though we are all Speedway related there is such a great range of diversity here, and many great people.

Hi
Ric Horridge, 53 years ?, self employed, live and work in petrolhead heaven ( west auckland ).
Partner is debs. Good girl she is too.
First got interested in speedway and stockcars in the about 1995, spectated for a few years then on a wim, bought a stockcar for a familly member. A total disaster and the stockcar disapeared onto a scrapheap somewhere. I decided , stuff it, i will do it myself and do it properly. purchased a wrecked a grade from huntly and with a lot of help converted it to a std stock. Intially i found it very difficult to find out information or even know who to ask. well this car was a disaster, we never got it right and i sold it. i crewed on the car after i sold it and probably learned more being on the crew than i had before. Still had the bug and decided after a gap to buy a new proven turn key car. So off we went, ultimately i again made a decission that my driving was not up to it, age, fitness levels etc.
So now i own and operate the 14a stockcar, the crew/helpers ( they know who they are ) are awesome, cj's driving is outstanding and it is happening. Even if the plan got changed a few times.
Really only been actively involved for a few years, still enjoy it, have meet some really neat and interesting people.
cheers ........ Ric

G'day...my name is Ian and I've been going to speedway since i was a wee fella. Home track is Te Marua but i have been to a few tracks around the country over the years. Palmy would have to be my fav track in terms of spectator comfort/view etc. Lived in Napier for a couple of years so meeanee was my hangout for a while. Never raced or crewed for anyone just a long time spectator. Got dissillusioned with 'superstocks' a few years back and voiced my opionions on this very forum which led to a certain Mr Hemi challanging me to give it a go myself. Its very diffirent once your strapped into a car, thats for sure. Didn't get out on the track for a couple of reason's but I now have more respect for anyone who strap's themself into any sort of speedway car. My fav class is Stockcars (std stocks) and my fav meeting would have to be the NZ Stockcar teams champs. I even went as far as pulling a sickie one weekend to get off work so I could drive from Wellington to Bay Park to watch the Wellington Young Guns win the title. Only decided on the friday morning to go so was bit of a rushed trip...but well worth it!!! But my all time fav highlight was finally getting to meet Mad Marty, a helluva nice guy!! And if their is anyone more passionate about speedway/stockcars I've yet to meet them.At the moment I'm living in Australia...got a job offer I couldn't refuse, although it means I miss out on speedway. But Macgors website keeps me up to date with everything thats happening...and special thanks to "petrolfumes" for hosting video clips of the big meetings...not as good as being there but helps to see the action instead of just reading about it.

Hi, Owen here.
I've been going to speedway for about 15yrs now.
Started watching a friend driving his Stockcar at Huntly and ended up crewing for him. My brothers and I then decided to "Give it a go" and raced as 31H then 87H for a few years.
Times and circumstances changed but we stay involved with the sport. We now help out at Huntly by driving the pace car or tractors as required.
Great view from the infield.

Gidday. The name is Roger Morrison and I'm 44 years young & living in Wanganui. I first attended speedway as a 7 year old when my father would go on the bus from Wanganui to Palmerston North to watch the likes of Gus Gapes, Graeme Stretch and Graeme Handysides do their stuff (I still have the programmes from those days). And on Sunday afternoons we would pile in the car to go to Stratford where I would watch the likes of Gary Scott, Albie Gordge and Alan Jago do their thing. I attended the first ever meeting at Ocean View Speedway (still have the programme) and since then have shifted all around the North Island being a regular at Palmy from 1971-74, Meanee from 1975-81, Te Marua from 1981-1991, Baypark from 1992-1995, Gisborne from 1995-1998 & Wanganui since 2000. I have spent the entire time sitting on the benches and grass banks as a spectator & never once driven on a track. In the last 12 months I have taken up reporting on Wanganui events for the NZDTR, the Wanganui Chronicle and Rolling Start website (as well as on here). I also provide the words for www.oceanviewspeedway.co.nz as I enjoy writing about my favourite sport. I am also heavily involved with Wanganui Harrier Club as Club Captain and in my spare time run marathons - 75 in fact & aim to complete 100 by the end of 2007. That's me - & go the Wanganui Warriors & the Wanganui Vulcans.

Pete here ... half my life near PNth, the past 22 years in Nelson so I guess this is home now (depends which team is doing better at the time!)
Raised as a hardcore fan in a speedway-following family in Feilding, began reporting on Nelson speedway in 1988 I think and have 10 or so NZ speedway awards for the Nelson Mail and myself since then. Work as the chief sub editor there so we get PLENTY of speedway in the paper -- altho you can't please all of the people all of the time as the club and committee might endorse.
Had a few runs in drag cars but hadn't done anything on the oval until a derby earlier this season -- can see how the bug bites. Great fun.

My name is Gavin Stowers. I have generally been known as Gazza by the online speedway community, and more recently as GMS on the Discussion Board.
I was born and raised in Massey, West Auckland, where I guess you are born with petrol in your blood. I was introduced to racing by my next door neighbours who used to go to Western Springs religiously. This was in the day of Barry B, Ted Tracey and visiting stars like Sleepy Tripp, Mel Kenyon and Stan Fox. This was a regular thing for around four or five years, but slowly petered out when I got to my teenage years.
My next involvement in racing was after I moved to Wellington and was invited to something called the Teams Champs in 1999. I at first declined, thinking it was a golf or rugby tournament, but was convinced to attend. A good friend of ours had a brother who was racing and they assured me I would love it.
I was absolutely addicted after watching the first race. I could not believe what I was seeing and I became an instant fan of stockcar racing, and two Wellington drivers – Tony Mac and Wayne Hemi. My intense interest in the sport - and wanting to know more about it – led me to searching the Internet, where I discovered two great websites; Macgor’s New Zealand Speedway, and Nigel Bree’s Kiwi Stockcar Racing Site. The two sites were my main education to the greatest form of motorsport in the world. I then introduced the Gazza persona, who was a passionate Wellington and Wildcats fan, and projected Wellington competitors and supporters as being all that is great. My very first contributions as Gazza were berating the Panthers for not seeming to care about Paul Demanser after the 1999 teams champs final where Scotty Miers rode the wall, hitting the 29p car out of the way to take the win. They were the enemy and had beaten the Wildcats, and Gazza was going to bleat long and loud how bad the Panthers were (OH, how that has come back to bite me in the butt..)
Gazza managed to gain a reputation as being pro-Wellington and very pro-Wildcats, and developed a degree of recognition by speedway fans and competitors alike. I made connections and friends with some amazing people like Yasmin Dolbel (Yaz), Gordon MacDougall (Macgor), Graham Hughes (GH), Phil Gleeson (Mr Bump) and a host of other likeminded people. But the biggest connection I have made by far, is one with a stockcar driver who, in 1999, was never reckoned as being in contention for major championships or title chases. In the 2001-2002 season, that all changed and I have been very fortunate to be involved with this man during a period of time that has seen him rise to become one of the most well-known and successful stockcar drivers in the country. My connections to Wayne Hemi started as a loose association through Gazza and this discussion board.
The fates intervened and I ended up being employed as a Contract Manager by Wayne after dropping out of law school. This allowed me to be even closer to stockcar racing, while still being able to feed my family….
In the eight years that I spent with Wayne at MMS / Masta Blasta, I learned more about running and operating a business - including the highs, lows, risks and rewards - than I could have EVER learned in a dozen business diplomas.
Career prospects within Wayne's company allowed my family and I the opportunity to relocate to the Gold Coast to manage MMS contracts with Gold Coast City Council. The move was an amazing one that has seen all of us grow from strength to strength.
Our working relationship developed into a strong friendship and I rate Wayne as one of an handful of people I call a true friend.
To me Wayne has demonstrated time and again that he is ahead of the game at all stages and that most follow only after he has paved the way.
That continues to this day. The coming introduction of his new Red Waka will be testament to that.
The phenomenon that is 591, Wayne Hemi and The Red Waka has enabled me to have an active hand in the sport, and stay at the 'leading edge' of speedway in New Zealand.
I am currently involved with helping Wayne prepare for the coming 2011/2012 race season. This involves the introduction to the community of his new race car, new website, merchandise, media applications and associated duties.

Wot a good idea this thread is. Well, my name is Wayne, i'm 26 years old and i love stockcars! I'm a Gizzy boy but have been living in the big AK for the past 4 years where i work as a mechanic. I've been a long time reader on this site but have only recently become a member. I've been going to speedway for as long as i can remember, my dad raced saloons in the late 70's/ early 80's. When i was 3years old dad was taking his car to the track and i wanted to go too but mum wasnt going so there wouldnt have been anyone to look after me, and i remember taking off after him and got almost three blocks from home before mum realised i had disappeared. Boy did i get a mean kick up the backside! As far as my racing career goes, i've raced production saloons for 3 seasons, and have done about a dozen derbys. Apart from that I've been pitcrew for my bro in laws stockcar whenever i go back home, or if he's racing up these ways. (although hes taken this season off to give the car a rebuild) Anyway, thanks for reading and its good to meet you all. See yall at the track

Hey, Matt Hazelton here. Speedway has been in the family since I was knee high to a grasshopper, yes I remember us kids being dragged over to the old baypark track and coming home over the kaimais when the farmers were getting up to milk the cows, clubrooms musta gone through a lotta beer in them days. Only just decided to get into the sport myself last season, and attempting to drive that car on the left, and also trying to keep my production saloon away from the concrete. My brother is turtle for you stockcar guys lol

heya all,my names Bruce Mcintosh, from christchurch, age 41,long time valiant streetstock driver, starting in invercargill 1987,mk 4 zephyr no 256,purchasing my first valiant,no 57i,a red and yellow ap5,off graham eyles, they were retiring, lucky devils! have retained the no 57 all the way thru.iI was greatly influenced in those early days by bad boy Stevie Dryden,Mike Verdona,Alan parkill,Terry Hall, and big bad Bob Burgess, the latter whose car i still campaign today,x 77c.these guys stand out,in my opinion,as the real hard chargers of the 8o,s. Of course, this was a fun time to race streetstocks,as officials werent as quick to redlight a race for anything, you could do almost anything, and cars could even roll, and basically carry on in a champs, aye tubby!!! Love all speedway forms, stockcars, mods, sprints etc,and love the goodsportsmanship, and friendships struck with other drivers, staying away at other venues etc. Im a tru blu ford fan, having owned numerous fairlanes, falcon gt,s,mustangs etc,and currently still own 3 falcon gt sedans. sadly, due to work commitments,i cannot race full time,so i must be a part timer! most people understand this,so its good. still like being bashed about,so a stockcar,or falcon streetstock, would be likely in future. regards, bruce mc.

Hi all i'm Glenn Rowlands and im 21+GST(37), Ive been going to speedway since i dont know when, started going to Stratford growing up in the Naki and when the family moved to the Bay of Plenty shuffled between Paradise valley and the old Baypark, Left school and moved back to Taranaki heading back to the Stratford track, Then decided to join the Navy and spent 16 years in Auckland going to Waikaraka Park (didnt go to western springs, only for concerts), then me and my then partner decided to shift to Nelson (her family was there) and then ended up going to Nelson Speedway, got my 1st streetie in Nelson for free but sat out the season waiting for my transmitter to turn up from SNZ, Me and my partner split (with a bit of help from 1 of Dennis Andresseands pitcrew, thanks aidan , paybacks are a bi*ch), So then moved over to Blenheim and raced the freebie valiant, killed it last easter champs at nelson then bought 13n streetie, had a chance to buy 58w stockcar so grabbed it and thats where i'm at today no more 69e streetie but 58e stockcar, oh work as a hydraulic technician for Pirtek ;D
