Isnt Dan Corrin 1NZ..not 24m?? And Michelle Whymer 3NZ?? yes....ummm, it was a cunning trick to see if anyone read my posts properly (that is the excuse I am sticking with). Seriously, I probably received the entries before the nationals, so this was the number they entered under. Will correct as appropriate.

I notice we have lost 3 Stratford cars of the entry list...now 39 entries. Hopefully groups and format will be available soon. Anthony

Groups will be posted on Friday (in case there are more drop offs or additions - would like to get an even number in each group). I can guarantee if I publish the groups and have to change them due to entry changes, someone will not be happy...
Format - 3 Qualifying groups (of 13 currently). Each group will have marble and reverse heats. Top 6 from each group go to the finals - 6 races (12 laps) - 1 repercharge with grids based on qualifying positions in group (then qualifying points) with top 2 going through to the finals (12 laps) - 2 Finals heats (marble draw and reverse to determine grids for the feature (12 laps) - Winner takes all final of 25 laps
Will be a full on night...10 Saloon races (and 10 support races) so should be good entertainment for Saloon lovers...

Hi John
That format looks more user friendly for a one night gig. I look forward to seeing those groups. I have my top 10 sorted but can`t decide on the other 10 for the final 20.

A request to all teams racing this week. Can you please be there by 4pm. Scrutineering will be 3-5pm with marble draw at 5pm followed by drivers briefing. I will be there early to get the teams parked so each of the qualifying groups are together. This will make it easier getting to dummy grid and off the track without tripping over each other. I will be aiming to have all cars on dummy grid prior to the previous race finishing so there is space for the cars to quickly get off the track. If anyone needs to see me, I will likely be on level 2 of race control frantically calculating grids. There are only 2 races between the last qualifying heat and the repercharge, and also 2 races between the second finals heat and the feature race, so I will not have much time to calculate, print and delivery grid sheets. Thanks in advance guys and girls. John

I don't think this format is the best way of running this event. Repechage drivers will have to race 6 times on the night whilst automatic qualifiers will compete 5 times on the night. That's asking a lot. This format failed for the NI TQ Title at Huntly. Drivers/officials have inadequate turnaround time and who knows what time we'll finish if a couple of protests get launched. Either way it will be a long night at Waikaraka Park. I reckon I'll be able to watch the show at Western Springs, drive across to Waikaraka and watch the title race with time to spare! Just keep it simple - 3 groups with 2 heats races each. Top 4 in each group qualify directly - Non-qualifiers into dual B-Mains, top 4 qualify from each for grids 13-20 - Either a pole shuffle or a dash for the top 12 - 25-lap A-Main Championship race 10 Saloon races with drivers racing a maximum of 4 times.

The format was decided and published on the entry form well before we realised the number of entries. It is easier to change the number of qualifying groups etc than change the format to not have a repercharge. Ideal situation would have been 2 nights - but this is even harder to change.

Looking at those groups and the format being used this could be one big lottery. I think 3 heats each group would certainly help the better guys come through in the points chase, the 2 heats will make things interesting. A 2 lane track will be a huge help. There are cars in those groups that can usually make good passes in most situations, however I have also seen times where certain cars on a one lane track only have to hold their line to make life difficult. There will be some interesting qualifying results tonight. Should be entertaining though.

Seriously hard work for all competitors with grid positions playing a role in the outcome!
