I was really looking forward to this event until I saw the format. 20 cars 3 X 15 laps. Highest points wins the NZ1. This format has a well proven record of a smash fest. Totally unfair due to half the field gifted one point automatically. Totally unfair due to cars behind the crash gifted points for passing no one. Totally unfair to expect 20 cars to gain places in 15 laps when the format in itself forces drivers to make desperate moves with dire results. (Recent example GP in Auckland) Used to be, using this outdated format one lap per car.So if this format was to be used at least 3 X 20 Laps. 3 X 15 format is what is used on a normal club night. Hardly much imagination involved using this for a Major Title. I'm not saying that a one race final is better but at least you know who wins when the first car crosses the line, as against having to wait for HOURS after the meeting has concluded to wait for a NZ 1,2,3. There will always be negatives and positives in all formats some formats will suit some better than others, but what format is decided has to be a level playing field for all competitors, and also an entertaining spectacle for the spectators whom travel to see exciting racing ,and do not get a thrill about seeing some great drivers present but unable to compete through no fault of their own with wrecked race cars. yup I havnt looked on here for a very long time and a few mates are heading up to watch and I thought I may have done the same. Pretty disappointed that its this format, while ive never seen any one not deserve to win under this format I totally agree with Trevors points Its such a crap shoot for the competitors and 85% of the final 20 will be less than happy with the results because of the actions often of others that wreck there championship hopes........ Theres a long list of examples......... but for those who attend the intensity will be huge from the start of the first lap of the first race and the championship will likely be decided in one of the first to races from my experience. Good luck to everyone involved. If I had my old car back id back myself and throw my hat in to the ring. ;-) Napier is a wonderful Place and they have always treated us well when we have travelled there, the club locals and especially the Flynn Family have always been amazing.

As a matter of interest ,did Blondie and skinny race there ,the last time it was held ..?? Last nz champs for them was 2004 both made the finals blondie and Steve did a dance in the first laps of the final resulting in steves champs being over in the 2nd lap blondie exited in the 3rd heat trying to pass under the tower and damaging his RR and RF skinny spun in one of the heats and struggled in the slick......( Thankfully ;-) ) the two of them won enought between them hahaha

As a matter of interest ,did Blondie and skinny race there ,the last time it was held ..?? Do you mean the last meeting at Waiwakaio Speedway? I know they raced Saloons as I went down to that meeting with my car,but sorry can't remember if Blondie and Skinny were racing. Maybe historian Max Rutherford of the Taranaki Historic Speedway club will have a record of that meeting.

With 22 entries thus far, and given that 21W has entered, then any of the following are real possibilities of entering.
12A, 36A, 63A, 99A, 21H, 6M, 7M, 16M, 41M, 43M, 53M, 85M, 12B, 13B, 41B, 24W, 42W, 12N, 46E, 11C, 17C, 19C, 27C, 48C, 79C, 811C, 5T, 12T, 77T, 13I, 25I and 95I.
Either way it will be a good event, and I am looking forward to my first visit to Meeanee Speedway.

What about 71c, I see on the Cromwell site Mike Verdoner is down as 26t, will these 2 be there. Think this could reach 50 easily.

71C has his car up for sale, Mike Verdoner appears to be focusing on Saloons at the moment. We are unlikely to see 12N and 21H does not have this meeting listed in his race schedule. Entries close on Friday so 40 to 50 is possible still.

50 is possible still. Anthony Hardly likely buddy. Of some of those cars you have listed as 'real possibilities of entering' some have never raced in the North Island and others have never raced outside there home track.

Well then dps, why don`t you let us know who those drivers are and therefore educate me somewhat. I would think 77T, 13I, 25I and 95I are the South Island cars you are referring to that have never raced in the North Island? Pretty sure all the others, bar 19C, were at Wellington last year. So we might get 44 - 45? Anthony

Now at 26 with 24W entered. Having looked at the car numbers I mentioned above there may well have been some entries I was overly hopeful of entering.
