With Gisborne Giants winning Asher Rees has announced his retirement, sadly due to injury, a legend of racing gone too soon from the sport.

how many years left does this event have? Quite a few judging by the near sell-out crowd in attendance tonight. Got to work on what was a fairly ordinary support card and the grandstand situation directly effects this event but I don't see any long term issues affecting the survival of this event.

Then you create a problem with the Friday night show not being value for money. Friday night in Auckland is a tough gig. It's not easy to get to the venue so as a promoter you have to give people a reason to attend. I thought running the Auckland Stockcar title on the Friday night was an inspired move that strengthened the Friday night card and gave punters a reason to fight the traffic and attend the event. You also have to take into account the pit space available, or more precisely the lack of.

That was an awesome teams event..well done to all drivers and teams. Amazing after how clinical Hawkes Bay were at Palmy..then a month later they were beaten 3 out of 4 races over the weekend. Congrats to the Giants certainly didn't have it easy..beating Hawkeyes twice then the Panthers 2 take the title. Sad to hear of Asher having to retire due to injuries..but life & health have to come first.

Don't get me wrong here I don't want to see anyone get hurt and especially so much so that they have to retire, but really "Legend". I don't think he is quite in this league and if you think he is your entitled to your opinion but I think it devalues the title give to the true legends of speedway....
