With Gisborne Giants winning Asher Rees has announced his retirement, sadly due to injury, a legend of racing gone too soon from the sport. You have got to be kidding me "a legend of racing". Don't get me wrong here I don't want to see anyone get hurt and especially so much so that they have to retire, but really "Legend". I don't think he is quite in this league and if you think he is your entitled to your opinion but I think it devalues the title give to the true legends of speedway.... Well considering Asher Rees age and time in the seat , time and time again he managed to show up some fairly experienced and respected drivers in both the Stockcar and Superstock classes .Maybe not a Legend in your eyes but the guy does deserve some credit for his racing ability .. And has sure shown up quite a few drivers that some would rate as Legends..

That's a bit rough, He achieved a lot in his short stint in the sport more than others could dream of. It was the right decision to make as he is so young and there is way more to life than just smashing stockcars around a track.

We all have a different perception of a Legend. Asher has achieved an amazing amount in a very short time, like has been said..more than some guys over a long career who are classed as legends. He's been 1NZ in the Stockcar, won the NZ Stockcar Teams twice, along with many other outstanding results. Was certainly well on his way to an amazing career in our sport but a wise decision prevails unfortunately. Must be hugely gutting for Ethan & Pete they had a dream to all race & win together but that's life. They now have the ultimate Crew Cheif..& how good are his Spank Chassis..went awesome over the weekend.

I assume you mean the NZ Stockcar Teams Title as opposed to the TWS Superstock Teams Nationals For those wondering about his record at the Superstock Teams Nationals, Asher represented the Manawatu Mustangs in 2013 & 2014, Stratford Scrappers in 2015 and the Gisborne Gaiants in 2016 starting a total of 13 races with his team on the winning side on 6 of those occasions.
