certainly the loss of the Barry B race robbed everyone of seeing drives from the rear.

What is more impressive about stats of Michael Pickens especially western springs. where only 12 meetings per season is possible. accumulated 67 A Main wins. people say he wins most from the front, still has go out win these races. be interested what percentage of wins MP has from starting off the front. will be extraodinarily high.. either way i think we witnessed something very unique NZ speedway. i doubt we'll see in my lifetime possibly many others. i have been going springs over 40 years. remember hey day of Late great Barry B for me i think MP without doubt best driver i have seen in my time of watching speedway.

Last night we witnessed wins #142 and #143 for Michael.
Indeed it was Michaels 59th Midget feature win at Western Springs. He sits 5 short of the 64 Barry Butterworth won at the venue.
Michael is up to 19 Sprintcar feature wins. Tim, you might be missing his Sprintcar win at the Palmerston North round of Rolling Thunder last year?

Thanks percy think your right i don't recall his palmerston north win. for last season wasnt it 3 midget wins, and 4 sprintcar features.
With Michael now on 59 feature wins at the springs, could be witnessing something very special for this season.

It's his home track. He should be winning. Doesn't travel much to be fair. Super saloons have got 6 meetings on the bounce in the sth island coming up, hellava shift for them. Be good to see these akl boys get out into the region's and see how good they really are. How many features has Hickman won at stratty? Arguable that the talent isn't there, however as one punter said, you still got to go out there and win it..!!
As a stat I recall Bertie won 14 odd races on the bounce on a sth island road trip once across 4 tracks. Doubt that stat will be matched.

Another stat that's been attributed to Rog is that he won 100 titles. Not sure of the exact criteria/definition of a title but I expect it would include NZ Champs, GP, North Island, South Island, regional ones such as Auckland, Waikato, B.O.P etc, Dirt Cups, possibly CTRA and maybe some Outlaw stuff as well. And that's titles, not just feature races so however you look at it, that's pretty impressive.

Bertie had skin in the game, and there was a handicap system in place when he was running as well. It's a completely different era now. Which makes what bert did all the more special and a hellava achievement which will never be matched imo. Take nothing away from Michael, but it's just different to what bert did.

Cue, Pickens fan (raises hand). Agree, the era's are very different. MP winning predominantly at WS is still an impressive achievement. The most competitive track in NZ for open wheel speedway. The calibre of talent is tougher imo (albeit this year minus a few US regulars, some of whom come for the majority of the season. i.e. Daum, Coons etc.). The regulations around car specs make for much closer genuine car speed. In those days, the difference in the field for car speed was much greater. Different eras, amazing achievements but in my opinion are not comparable. In saying that, MP is in my opinion the greatest speedway driver NZ has produced. Winning overseas, regularly competing and occasionally beating the best in the world (Larson, Bell, Clauson etc.) in NZ and in the US and the longevity of success is outstanding. Not to mention the calibre of drivers that really, deserve to have had more achievements (Mosen, Williams etc.) if it weren't for MP. To get somewhat back on topic, outstanding job with this list, Percy and anyone who helped. Awesome way to see the history of success.

pretty impressive record MP has attributed over 23 seasons now. i highly doubt see any current competitor with same sort of record breaking feat, done it not only at his hometrack other tracks around the country along with overseas. if you had record of 89 Features on your home track, and 94 wins at the rest.. not bad statistic to have . we also forget compared 1980s at the springs amount of race meetings far less, chance of getting anywhere near other records is incredibly tough to do. who knows how many wins and championships his career will end up at. From what percy has compiled which is difficult job to do.. we have seen driver this era, no other will ever come close to matching.. thats any category around the country.

Just noticed that michael has another win dating back 2006 from baypark making his wins now at 205.. can you give us more info into that win ? i didnt think MP had won sprintcar ranks back 2006. going to guess was when he was racing 11C Car of Gerald ness.
went full time racing 2013-14 season obviously had couple runs late 2013 season including last meeting of the season at western springs, well as some other away tracks.
