As someone who’s spent time calling events, I always think it’s s good thing when the commentary as opposed to what’s happening on track is the issue people focus on . There is clearly loyalty at play, as that same person hasn’t been up to the role almost since the livestreams first started, but im sure does an adequate job the 15+ other club nights a year so bit tough to push him aside for the biggest meet of the year. Whoever was in the pits was just learning . Mal Sines was fantastic A bit like in rugby and cricket, while the international players are away on a series - the regulars do all the work to get to the finals and all the international players turn up to play in and win the final. Will be listening on the stream tonight and hoping for an improvement

It’s probably a bit more like inviting the neighborhood over for dinner, then telling the Mrs you are bringing in a chef.

In general admission city bend, can't hear a thing. will say this. Lacked a guy who had nothing but passion for the sport. Made you want to listen. Miss the Pendulum swinging. Guess that that something to do with action a bit down. Still loved it. But looking at the draw knew you were going to get that as all the top unseeded teams missed each other like rebels and gaints. That's what it came don't to. There weren't very many even team races all night expect auckland ones. And baypark ones. And stratford ones. Even the Hawke eyes last one was over half way through. And even with the hits and failed hits never once looked like losing. Only losing there semi spot.

What a difference a night makrs - much happier. I trust the Palmy management take notice Yes. Having Mike there obviously helped with that end of things, but it also freed up Malcolm to do his thing instead of having to chase up points etc. We also got some better info from the pits, and the crosses up to Ross Thurston in the referee's box is something we've been waiting for for years. Much improved all round. But it never ceases to amaze me how often this happens, where things are fixed for Night 2 at these big meetings, yet 12 months later we're back to square one. Barry B

Barry B Its almost like people should take note of these lessons learnt, so they dont repeat the same mistakes...... Agreed the input from the refrees box was unexpected, but an outstanding introduction.

Malcolm Sines superb as always, setting the standard for commentary in New Zealand speedway.

agree the cross to the referee's box was a very pleasent and unexpected surprise. do not need it at all meetings but sure added value.
sad things is 95% of people probably never heard it, at least at the track anyway.
personally I have listened to the commentary via FM for as long as it has been around but so few seem to take up this option or are even aware of it. Modern so called smart phone manufactures no longer add the radio FM unction into the phones as they want you to listen via internet options
I listen to the rugby on the radio as well, amassing what you miss otherwise
### get with the option people, most tracks and all big meetings generally have it. :-)
Thanks Mike and Mal, you kept control of the commentary, hardly heard a peep from the "other guy" and at least what he did say was more relevant and accurate than the previous night.
Thanks for making my night much better - I was entertained by what I heard

Hey mike the volume no better than last night mate or the speaker is knackered 20th Season on the Mic Unfortunately the Speaker and Volume problem is a Stadium issue of which was out of our control. The Arena needs smaller gaps between speakers and a gruntier Mixer to solve those problems. we were maxed out as far as possible without blowing anything up.

With ya on that one Mike I kinda work with Shaun from Manawatu Sound when at the horse races and he expalined when they revamped the Arena whoever designed/done the sound didnt want a bar of speaker quality but went with the looks instead. Puk invested in extra sounds I think and made the effort but yea its an arena issue and you guys can only work with what your given! From myself top stuff to you and Mel! Was good to finally meet Mel in the clubrooms Saturday night and like Andrew I know Im looking forward to learning from you guys too so we can give the fans what they want from behind the mic

Have no idea what the commentary was like as the speakers weren’t loud enough. Only thing I heard was the safety announcement at the start of the night prior to any cars starting! Hopefully an event this size has a bit of money to throw at the amp/speakers for next year!

NOT Superstock BUT when a commentator has the respect of the drivers, and a commentator knows his stuff, the drivers are more than happy to engage. This is ONLY pre race ... during the night its even better ... I'm currently working on the World Series Sprintcars with the BEST commentator I've ever seen. The production crew is new to Speedway BUT are producing a show NZ can only dream of. www.facebook.com/WorldSeriesSprintcars/videos/1613607625383994/
