Introducing Mr Rocket scientist ,lol .lol I was just wondering what comparisons there would be between sprint cars, mods and midgets at wacky park seeing thaty would be the faster track between there and the springs I thought ? Any other ways we can tell MrGrace apart from rocket science ?? If someone volunteers some data for a mod I can compare the three at waikaraka. Actually the springs is the faster track, in midgets or sprint cars it's a couple gears taller than the park. Much tighter turns at waikaraka, and because it has long straights the assumption is that the speeds are higher but in reality the time is spent trying to get grip and accelerate the car.

The same assumptions are made about WFG, but the reality is different

mod46c 105" Right rear I'm guessing, what's ballpark for stagger with these things? They look like they've all got 13 - 14" as a base is that anywhere near?

Reckon it might be too hard to calculate by using tire size/rpm/gearing, because there's also tire spin, and growth to factor in as well. Way back in the 90's i think it was, coulda been 2000's, they radared sprints at the springs one night at the end of the pits straight, and from memory...could be wrong... but think they were talking 100-105 mph for the top boys. Someone might remember better. Another way to figure it, would be through video time-code. Anyone with pro, or high-end pro-sumer gear could do this. Couple of tidbits of interest on this topic, that 145 average in the video a few posts back....Sammy held it at 144 in the 80's at Syracuse for ages. Funnily enough, they thought,or were measured, to be about 20mph down on straightaway speed, to a dirt champ car and a regular usac sprint...because of the wing drag. Of course they made up for it and then some, with cornering speed.

Yup. Easiest way is to bolt on a new go pro with gps speed/heading data, a few videos up on YouTube already with it.

Yup. Easiest way is to bolt on a new go pro with gps speed/heading data, a few videos up on YouTube already with it. Suspect you'll still run into sampling interval issues. The GPS receivers I've worked with in the past only update about once a second which would be far to slow for this application, although some speed up there sample rate if they detect rapid change (to from memory about 200mSec). Not sure what sample rate you would need to measure this accurately or more accurately sample at the point of maxim velocity but I suspect in the uSec range. The calculations above are maxim instantaneous velocity, by the way I assumed 10% slip.

We had a Police Radar check the Sprintcars at Palmerston North at 159KPH.
This was about 6 years ago so today they would easily exceed 160kph or 100mph

American sprintcar driver Christie Passmore was clocked doing 177kpm at Baypark in 2002 and why wasn't foxy started at the back of every modified race on Saturday night to try and make it a bit entertaining for us spectators.

When they start paying out money and giving titles based on passing points we will start from the rear. Given event was a title event why would we agree to start off with a handicap?? Most clubnights we allow ourselves to be handicapped and start off the rear in every race as long as the other top guys do likewise, we get no extra money for this with prizemoney only being paid on race results, 1st pays more than 2nd and so on. We have offered before to run for a fixed appearance fee on clubnights and no prizemoney and start where ever they want to start us but it hasn't been taken up so while they only pay out on final result we would be stupid to make our job harder and riskier re possible damage than what it needs to be. Title races are different, grids need to be fair for these events with every one having the same chance. I am sure it would be great for the crowd if we agreed to start from the rear even in these events but when you only get the trophy for winning the event why should we agree to that? We like to put on a show but we also have a car to run so even though prizemoney isn't a lot it all still helps! Of course if anyone in the stands wants to offer us $1k a night to start from the rear in every race then we would consider it. how deep are your pockets?

Fair enough but just saying wasn't very exciting to watch for me but did enjoy the first race and im sure foxy enjoys winning passing cars as well, mayby that should be done having passing points because the sport is supposed to be entertainment and it wasn't that on Saturday night.

We enjoyed it! To be fair it is a bit harsh on the other guys running on Saturday inferring it was one way traffic. Luke in the 89a mod was trucking along strongly, took a win and stayed in touch with Foxy in the feature to some degree. 21s had a bit of bad luck or he may have been up the pointy end as well. Both Jordan and Barry have been getting stronger and stronger all year and Mike in the 78h machine ran a strong 3rd. Crumpy and Ray always put on a good show and young Daniel is brand new to the class but will settle in. There was plenty of action when the leading guys got into lapping back-markers, edge of the seat there with a few dodgy moments but all in all racing was pretty quick and all the guys did pretty well considering some of the ruts late in the night. I think patience is required by fans, there are a few young guys running around in the class now and they are getting quicker all the time, it won't be long before we are chasing them instead of the other way around!

13.80 Lap record for mods at Waikaraka. Foxy Feb 2017
13.33 lap record sprintcars at Waikaraka. Michael Pickens 2015.
Little difference really.
Less than half a lap over 12 laps... so next time Foxy drives with the sprintcars at WP..can he please drive his mod so we can see it play out...

If Foxy left WP for another club..you would see the crowd get smaller and smaller, his skills are appreciated by the fans..I cant for the life of me figure how he isnt paid a set fee to run and stay at WP..jeez if I was promoting Huntly I'd be there with the cash card!!
