Got a couple of questions for you guys about the demo derbys run in nz. Firstly, does anyone know if there are any places (speedway tracks or no) that run the american style demo derbys with rules more similar to theirs too (preferably near chch) as opposed to the snz/ctra rules? I have run the derbys at Woodford Glen the last couple of seasons and will be running in ashburton on june 10 but want to do more of them and more of different styles than just the standard speedway derby and the ramp race. was supposed to be building a el falcon production but if there are american style ones with wire/chain/weld classes I'll be building that up in a heartbeat. Second question more aimed towards the canterbury/ south island guys is how many derbys generally get run during the snz/ctra season and are there any 'hidden' or not so widely publicised ones that get run semi-regularly? Ashburton is going to be my first ctra one and aside from woodford glens 3 derbys i don't really know of any other ones that get run, kinda want to make a proper season of it and run 7 or 8 of them if I can. Cheers

I admire your enthusiasm. If you have facebook there is a guy called "Derby Dave" on there whom I'm sure you'd get along with very well. Good luck with your future endeavors.

Just get a Streetie or a Stockcar. Given how strong that Streetstocks are in that area, this isn't the dumbest idea you'll come across this week or next.

definitely enjoyed the demo derby program on discovery turbo Channel ...I like the way the Yanks run the heats..a whole meeting of derby heats to the main event...was exciting..and a lot of fun..generally I cant stand demo derby's here in NZ...but this showed how it should be done... was called Kings of Crash

Cheers for the feedback guys. I had considered streetys or stock cars but I don't get the same kick out of them as I do from proper derbying. Streetstock don't allow full contact and stockcars don't fold up in a crash quite like a $200 nutster you don't care about. With the rules and mods the Yanks have you can easily get 2 or 3 runs out of a car so it's pretty good value for money. That discovery show is pretty good too if I'm thinking of the same one

onceuponatime there usdabe quite a few of those "american" style demo derbies to be found. usually on a disused paddock, wordofmouth.. was a great way to ease into racing . started on grass which quickly became dirt. maybe a business opportunity for country pubs with a paddock out back.....

That was my next thought, find someone with a back paddock that doesnt mind us using it and just doing it myself. Would rather it be at an organised event though because its exciting for the crowd and gives other people who want to try one a go at doing one
