Kiikihi did a few things different this season. All of them went really well. We needed to come up with a plan to introduce new people not only to our track but to the sport. The idea was to start getting all the local business their family and staff to see this first hand. We will be more than happy to discuss at some point. The simple things seem to work really well.

... brought in a huge number of new spectators by running a D1 drift series round... Whow, 15,000 spectators! Very impressive. May I ask what is Te Maura's full house crowd capacity? This article mentions "..about 100 truckloads of cement covering 500 square metres..." which I assume they mean 100 trucklaods of concrete - where is it all that mass stored now?

Did it work? Well, we cut our radio advertising by $20K and increased our gate take by 25%, so its pretty obvious that our bottom line was greatly enhanced, and a lot of it down to innovations like Tag-a-Mate Tuesday. Never heard of Tag-a-mate, so good on you for being innovative. One improvement I have noticed is all the signs pegged into the turf which are strategically located all over the greater Wellington area, which seem to pop up and down with notable consistency and change accordingly depending on what show they are promoting. I hope the sign man got a few beers on the club for all his/her good work.

Capacity is about 6-7,000 and D1 ran over three days. Yes, about 100 truck loads of concrete, much of it was permanent works for the infield, which has been retained, there was then a concrete "cover" on part of the straights and turn 3 and 4, which was broken up and disposed of the day after the meeting - so we could Run the Supersaloon GP the following weekend. Overall a good event as it exposed a new group of spectators to what we can offer at our facility.

Its great to see some real passion come from Chris13W about his speedway in Wellington. At the end of the day I guess its not about the bling trophy (Maybe wrong) but making it work and knowing that the place is at good as it could be

At the end of the day I guess its not about the bling trophy (Maybe wrong) but making it work and knowing that the place is at good as it could be Actually what is really satisfying for Wellington Max Motors Family Speedway is that we just won the NZ Dirt Track 1NZ Track of the Year award - chosen and voted on by over 4000 fans. The Team are rapt that we won this, as its chosen by the people who count most, the ones who come out every weekend and support Speedway Racing in NZ. Absolutely stoked that we got 27.6% of the vote to beat Palmerston North and Rotorua - so we were up against some of the best for this award, and it means a lot to everyone here at Wellington. Also great to see Wellington Ministocker Damon Smith 81W recognised with the #Next Big Thing under 17 award. Cheers to all the fans who voted!

Hi Chris, i have been around a number of Speedways in the north island this year and i must tell you Te Marua the best it has a great atmosphere, clean and great racing so dont worry about some trophy you might have won as the fans and all the speedway workers, racers and wood-be racers know how good it is and thats shows by the large attendances you have been getting so Go the Wellington team cheers.

I've often wondered why Clubs dont nominate drivers for the National awards.
Surely if you win "Driver of the Year" at your local club you should be a finalist in the National awards. Like wise if you are "Class Competitor" winner you too should automatically qualify for the awards.
As we know a well written brag sheet could win over a humble competitor that deserve the recognition.
Would this add credibility back to the awards if responsibility was given to the Clubs?

As has been mentioned on here before, there's nothing to stop the clubs doing that now. And some do. Others don't. You can't make the clubs do it, so what happens if a driver cleans up everything imaginable and his club doesn't nominate him or her? Barry B

Barry B Surely A club has a "list" of Winners from their own prize giving, this list could easily be emailed, giving the "National Awards" a list of potential nominees. The "list" is quite often written up weeks prior to prize giving. Most if not ALL local awards nights are prior to the National event.

However, to be fair, it is National Awards over and above already recognised achievements at a local level, not a battle as to who has achieved most at club level to be recognised nationally. Barry B

Really suprised with midget category 2 south island drivers got nomination. no disrespect towards those nominated seems bit strange have they won much over the course 2017-18 season.
where's michael pickens winner nz midget grand prix, 3 features top 3 Rolling thunder series and Nz #3 didnt get nominated this season, was by far best local driver on show.

I don't recall them ever being made public before and I doubt it will change anytime soon. You need to be pi##ing in the right pockets or don't bother wasting your time.... been that way for years.
