Don't get me wrong, some of the finalists and winners are extremely worthy of the accolades, you being one. I enjoy scrolling through your photos myself at times although it can certainly take a fair while given how many you load on a thread sometimes! . Also helps if you like stockcars and superstocks I suppose what I should have said is make sure you keep on the good side of SNZ because if you don't then expect to be overlooked when common sense and results tells you that you shouldn't be. Hopefully this wording comes off as the more PC way to say what I meant in the original comment. Ha! Well done on your award anyway, as I say it is well deserved. Finalists and winners should be found on merit and should not rely on someone nominating themselves. They are supposed to be the highest performers in the sport that season as recognized by the national body and I am afraid that this year there are to many obvious omissions for some of the awards to be credible. A better way needs to be found in future if we want to say the awards handed out are a true reflection of the sport in that season. Only my opinion but I know I am not the only person with this view from feedback I have received.

I've probably said it about a hundred times, but I'll say it once more. The biggest problem with the Awards has always been the nomination process. I certainly don't have all the answers, but that is the biggest single problem area in the opinion of many, I think. Sort that out, a way of ensuring that EVERYBODY deserving is at least "on the list", and let the judges go from there.

Barry B And I have said 100 times that there shouldn't need to be a nomination process (at least for the drivers / racing ones anyway). Sure have open nominations for the non racing awards as these will always be awarded based on opinion, personal preference and not always facts. Racing / driving award finalists in each class should be plain and obvious based on the seasons results in all classes in all premier events (not just SNZ events). The Awards committee should have enough experience / nous to be able to work out who the 3 finalists should be in each SNZ class every year and be able to pick the winners from there or they shouldn't be on the committee, plain and simple, just do your homework if you are sticking your hand up to be the judge of the awards. Same as Halberg awards judges do (much bigger scale of coarse).

The awards were a hot topic over the course of the weekend with plenty of informal discussion.
The topic also made the AGM floor as it was raised by a delegate during Promotions Committee time. Constructive points were made and hopefully taken on board. If not my suggestion is get some nominations together and vote out the current promotions team at the next AGM.

So if your nomination was put forward once again, for an award ,do you think you would have a better chance of winning by a new team of judges ...
