You guys in Auckland are not going to have a new Speedway in any form that you think is going to be ok in the future.Read between the lines Auckland council can't keep up with its current infrastructure cost's and needs.Do you think a new Speedway is going to be a priority on their list nah ya dreaming.I have got this stinking old Western Springs cap which i will put in my freezer just in case i have to pull it out in 2-3 years time and eat it.This is my opinion yes! been involved in a few speedway's in the last 50 years as a founding member, committee member, competitor, and offical on both governing speedway bodies.A lot of people talk it but there is a lot of difference when you need to walk it.

What will happen if buckley says I have had enough and walks away from speedway who will be the money man or the promoter ?? That is the big difference between the 2 tracks. One runs within their means...the other requires cash injections by a benefactor and council.

Goff said no extra money has been set aside for the development of Western Springs ,as a cricket venue and Rfa has assured him they are not seeking funding to convert it into a cricket ground for the next few years .. Eden Park trust chairman Doug Mckay said the trust knew nothing about the plans for Western Springs ,and the Warriors C E O Cameron George said at this stage we do not wish to comment ...

Eden Park trust chairman Doug Mckay said the trust knew nothing about the plans for Western Springs ,and the Warriors C E O Cameron George said at this stage we do not wish to comment ... The issue is the RFA strategy and once one domino starts the others must fall too. The article in the herald said (must be true then) that the cost of cricket at the springs is estimated at 91m. If that's the case then why do it? Why not carry on with rugby and cricket at Eden park, league at mt smart, football at Albany and speedway at the springs. Not ideal but neither is the results of the 100's of millions of spending proposed in the strategy. Let's continue with concerts at the Springs, Mt a Smart and let them use Eden Park depending on the artist and promoter. www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12204293If if there is a case for a waterfront stadium let's start there. Or, if there is a case for a bigger, better speedway track let's start there. Both cases have merit and deserve to be heard. BUT, let's ditch the idea of moving sports and reallocating stadiums just because the less than 1% of residents don't like it and that is the current driver. The 99% of ratepayers deserve to have their council trust their city, sports and pockets with respect!

there are people at the RFA spending millions on these grand proposals for plans that are not needed and that no one wants just to justify their jobs. The RFA needs a cleanout and get someone running it who will do the core job of maintaining the stadiums.

What will happen if buckley says I have had enough and walks away from speedway who will be the money man or the promoter ?? it could be a good thing. Bill seems to attract people with no moral scruples One did time the other, lets just say another is very much self serving. SPL are not the only people capable of promoting speedway in Auckland.

I don't think it is anything against Bill, just the people that end up promoting for him.

So March 16 could quite well still be the last ever race meeting at Western Springs as there has been no formal writing that there is an extension or that there will be an extension?

How sad is that? They claim to be the most professional speedway in NZ and then put on the lowest bogan least professional rubbish like that.

it seems that Bill got some PR going with this story in the Herald, its a sad state of affiars, and I hope western springs is open next year, as Colin Dale park is a while a way yet, if it happens at all,

it seems that Bill got some PR going with this story in the Herald, its a sad state of affiars, and I hope western springs is open next year, as Colin Dale park is a while a way yet, if it happens at all, To little to late.SPL have only themselves to blame. SPL have handled the behind the scenes politics poorly. Mosen placed Bill Buckley in positions he should never have been placed in. Once it became political they should have got someone who knew how to play the game not use bullying tactics and mislead the people who have supported the springs over the year's. Lime have succeeded were SPL has failed using a lobbyist to provide advice. Add in Mr Drevers issues and involvement with the springs shows how out of touch SPL are with the realities of public relations and politics. This has always been about politics and an agenda by the RFA. A PR campaign that involved the generations of families that attend the springs,to a mum and dad supporting there son or daughter in Kiwi Kidzs, to the family friendly, trouble free, bring a chill bin and your own food Saturday nights form of entertainment. Thats what was required at the time. Thats what resonats with local politicians and the non speedway community. To the people who look down at us speedway fans we are a bunch of Yobbos that need to be sent out of sight out of mind away from the now upmarket area of Grey Lynn. Unfortunately we as fans know that is not true and in fact i feel more safer at the springs watching speedway with my family than at a cricket international. We have respect for each other in the terraces and respect for our passion that is speedway at the springs. That's what SPL should have put forward using lobbyists,a public relations campaign to fight, to attract and win over the general publics attention and their opinions. Getting the general public involved talking about the abuse, drunken behaviour and lack of a family friendly environment at a ODI or 20/20 international would have allowed SPL to raise the family friendly safe speedway environment at the springs as a counter point.Thats how you play the game of politics. Unfortunately SPL are so out of touch with the fans in the terraces these days they would not even understand that concept.
